yea her new drama looks like it could be good. I still ship the two of them, but not to the point where i can't watch their other stuff. Hopefully they get to play opp eachother again in something good someday.

spring over phoenix pond is off to a great start, if you are jonesing for some deng kai. but only 1 short-ep per day i think. I wish i had started later so i could binge it. good performance, good makeup, good fl, good role for his personality... it's not a villain, but he is cunning all the same. So he has to act curious, concerned, intrigued, mystefied, amused....
Usually he plays villain and so this is one where he gets to branch out and he's doing a great job. 10x more entertaining than overdo.

ive unfortunately gotten more of a gist for the drama than i was hoping for just by unruly comments on this page revealing an awful lot of the plot.... and i think i might take a pass unless something happens in the last eps that create a massive payoff situation for the viewer, but im not holding out any hope for that.
Somebody told me up in here that Ling He said he was in love with the script and thinks it's his most nuanced character to date (or something like that), but that's what they all say on the press junket for their new releases. You can never trust that a drama was an actors most favorite drama, when that drama happens to be the same one they're currently promoting.
Maybe someday I'll pick it up just to keep up to date on Ling He's career, but I'm not looking forward to it.
I made it into the 3rd/4th ep, their first kiss scene. And it is a forced kiss scene, I like those. But it didn't feel earned to me, i didn't feel that ka-pow factor.
I also *really* don't like it when he plays happy, innocent smiling weak characters. IMO he's way better suited to dark, imposing, angry/cranky, fierce, intimidating, calculating etc etc. idk if it keeps up that way, but he did an awful lot of smiling and weaksauce and innocent in the first 3 eps.
When his big bro gives him the boat ticket to England on the day of the engagement ceremony, i saw a flash of real actual ACTING, and I loved it. but then it faded so fast like a mirage.
Also, bgm is kind of taking a crap on some of the performances, so every now and then i have to turn off sound.
And I just came off the heels of blossoms of power, where i watched the whole damn thing with no sound due to the INSAne executive decision to voice over He Yu with a badly mismatched voice actor.
If you haven't seen My Fated Boy, I highly highly reccommend it. Just start by skipping around a little bit and see if you can hang with the vibe, and if you can, then start it for real. It's so so good, writing is excellent, He Yu is excellent, FL is such a relief because she doesn't pitch her voice up high and do that baby act and try to act all cutsey. Very natural and grounded approach to the role. And there was kilig and spice!!! So great, loved it.

1) So lemme see if i got this straight: Directly after engagement announcement, big bro offers ML a boat ticket to England. He sits and stares at it with a sardonic smile, because he WANTS to take it to spare himself the pain of watching his crush get married to his big bro. But he CANT take it because this biatch is clearly conniving, and he CARES about his big bro, and therefore must stay to protect him from this lyin ho.
2) And let me guess he's gonna try to expose her by forcing her to admit she still loves HIM, the lil bro, to get her facade to crack
3) big bro says he and FL "exchanged letters" and then you get lil bro the ML hearing a ringing in his head and getting flashback sequence. This flashback sequence makes me wonder..... did big bro or someone else, intercept his letter with the photo in it and then swap out his photo for his big bro's photo?
Or am I way way too early on to be making wild guesses lol

lovestruck puppy can be ok, depends on the writer. He Yu's character in My Fated Boy and in Blossoms of Power were both lovestruck puppy, but in MFB, I liked it a lot and in BOP I disliked it.

usually (not always!) don't like republican era dramas due to plots i'm not interested in (secret weapons cache... business double cross... secret operatives... smuggling operation at the port... etc)
would slog thru plot for a payoff
LOVE ling he as Xie Wei in SOKP because he played a dark cranky serious morally gray character with rad kiss scenes that burnt my brain
disliked ling he in almost everything else he's done (poj was decent i guess)
still interested in how his career is progressing, as i've seen almost everything he's done to date just to watch his acting change over time, and see what projects he's picking and check out the kiss scenes.
