I started watching this thinking the IU character would be more like Hotel Del Luna but no, it is just another…
Same here, picked it up recently as I didn't have anything else to watch and dropped it at episode 4. Both leads are just so unlikable. I'm not sure what was supposed to keep me watching as I haven't been rooting for anyone. The premise of monarchy in current times sounded interesting, but that alone kept me interested only for so much. I didn't rate it (i never rate unfinished dramas) but it would be 3 meybe 4. I was really disappointed.
It starts really strong and get you hooked from the beginning. There are times you love main characters and times you hate them. I apreciate they went rather realistic route to some topics and character behaviors.
This is not a light drama, it touches heavy topics and the ending will punch your guts, but it is for sure memorable.
Might be the best performances for Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun. And NF did it in almost old school kdrama format (15x1h episode) that wasn't feeling too much. If anything, I would like additional episode with more scenes in present time.
This is a rather average drama that doesn't know what it wants to be and at the end it lacks any impact. By description you would think it is about struggling to go back to your dreams after being stranded for 15 years. But when you start to watch 1st episode is way darker then I originally though were serious family dramas are introduced. Then it is rather struggle of power about company ownership plus more family drama and at the end I was scratching my head with question, "what was the purpose of this story". And as far as I'm concerned we never get the answer as it is all over the place.
Don't get me wrong, it is no a bad drama, it is enjoyable to watch but nothing that memorable. I was approaching this drama with a hope that focus will be on how person can live in current society and with current technology after missing last 15 years, but this drama is anything but that (with very minor exceptions). Again, this is mostly my fault to expect something different, but this time I don't feel at fault as this is how this title has been "sold" to me.
Watch only if you are bored or like Park Eun Bin but this is not her best work, so I would say it is an easy skip.
What a mess of the drama. 2 reviews you can read with 5 rating reflect most of my feelings. It starts strong, but the "lying" part is just dragged for far too long (up until episode 9!!!). Second ML is basically a toxic coward that was living 20 years next to his friend to suddenly realize that he needs to tell he loves her and whatnot? I don't even believe he actually loves her. She is probably the only girl he's had contact with for the last 10 years or so (being a single father, he probably didn't have much time to "mess around"). Who would like to be with a person like that that? He was living in some dellulu world in his mind that he is in love. I didn't believe for a one second that he actually liked her this way. She was just always around in his life so he just didn't know any better. I had to FW almost all scenes with this guy as his behavior just drove me mad.
For everyone wondering: - there is a heavy focus on love triangle, so be warned (and I mean heavy, heavy , heavy focus on it) - there is a HE for main leads - there is a big "nothing burger" with second leads (it might be considered open ended, but I don't like where they left it)
If not for the toxic behavior of the second ML, and cutting episodes to maybe 10-12, this you've be far more enjoyable to watch as there are fun stuff. Like the whole "mothers team", the "sister plot to overtake company", female leads chemistry. There is plenty to like, but it is being interrupted (very often and for relatively long time) by the things that were just impossible for me to watch.
The rating here is absolutely not deserved. There is plenty more things to watch instead, so be warned.
Not my usual type of drama but picked this up mainly thanks to low number of episodes and nothing else to do over the weekend. It was surprisingly good for what it is. There have been some surprising plot twists I wasn't expecting. Going back and forth to "ghost world" got a little repetitive at some point and I don't think they've explain the rules of getting back that well so I was a little bit confused by that part the whole time.
I hope there won't be a season 2 (albeit I know it would be bery easy to create one), as now it just gives you a complete story. and creating anything further might unfortunately dilute the experience.
As a side note. I had a feeling they've used the same VFX company as for the Stranger Things as some things used like re-used CGI assets/effects. But hey, if that made this series cheaper, then I'm ok with that as, IMO, CGI looked great so maybe reusing of assets should become "a thing" more often :)
First 2 episodes are very good, but it seems like a material for 2h movie not 12 episode series. I hope to be proven wrong and the story keeps being interesting. I really like the slow pacing the show has.
Also meeting with "ex" in the 2nd episode was just great, I really liked how she has treated him :)
Hmm, not to spoil too much, but so many people says it is a SE, but in my opinion it is HE for our leads and the last scene (with the boy) exactly confirms that. I don't believe it being a hallucination, it just doesn't make sense.
I must have given similar comments in other dramas but there is just too many episodes when they are in high school. I've felt tricked when I've learnt that intro sequence shows basically what happens in the last 10 minutes of the last episode which let me think the "time jumps" will be sooner and we will see more of their adult life.
This would be better drama (for me) if not for the first 19 episodes when they are in high school which should at best be 6-8 episodes (which I was honestly expecting). For me the last episodes with University and adult life just felt rushed.
For me it was a wasted potential but only because I'm not the target audience for high school things and I was expecting something else (so partially blame is on me for having wrong expectations). Other then that it is warm and fluffy and fun without artificially created dramas between leads (they actually talk to each other to explain things to avoid misunderstandings, so refreshing). If heavy high school focus is not a problem, this is absolutely a must watch but I personally cannot rate it very high.
Now I need a drama with second leads which at some point were much more interesting than the primary leads :)
Will he fall in love with his own daughter, since his soul is in young man? ðŸ¤ðŸ¤«ðŸ¤”
Well if it would be JPN show then who knows 🤠I'm sure if there will be any romance with the daughter it will be after father is no longer in this guy's body.
Your review is absolutely to the point, but for me I ended up giving it 7. What you wrote is true, I must have just enjoy more than you did, which is fine, this is how reviews and scores works :)
Surprisingly good drama. With that many episodes it is slow paced. Also there is not that many episodes with main leads. I would say that this one review with 4.0 score is very accurate describing the drama (everything Yvin wrote is absolutely accurate) but I gave it a solid 7.
Unfortunately casting Zhang Zi Yi to this role wasn't a good choice. She was 39 when this drama was shoot, and she looks stunning and beautiful but she looks at best late 20/early 30. This bothered me the whole time I was watching it.
This is my first j-drama and I'm honestly super unimpressed. any recs for similar concept shows?
Similar concept I would say would be: Cinderella at 2 AM - I've dropped it Business Marriage
Different concept, but would say adjacent theme (and ones I've actually enjoyed): The Full-Time Wife Escapist An Incurable Case of Love
jdramas tends to be very "theatric like" when we are talking about aesthetic and that is not what everyone likes. You can take a look at my watchlist and see what JP production I've completed and maybe you will find something for yourself.
I'm on episode 14. It is getting better and better and I'm reading in comments that we are going to big politics/palace in next episodes which is exactly up to my alley.
YX drives me nuts. He is the only heir with no chance (so far) to get a military merit so he needs to step up in some other way to continue the family name but he behaves like a spoiled brat. I wish him the good ending, but he seriously needs to be humbled. The actor is doing great job playing this role :)
GJZ plays such a good character. She is from one side mature, outspoken and confident, from other childish and immature as she should be as 15 year old girl.
Lastly, I just don't se the chemistry with CYY. Maybe it is the age gap, or the actor playing the role but something is off with him and every scene he is in. We all know who he will end up with (and most likely it will be a happy ending), but I already see that I won't like it :)
Overall, except actor playing CYY, everyone is doing a fantastic job portraying their characters.
Edit: And mandatory "what a POS father". I hope he will get what he deserves. The sister is still redeemable for me, as she is just a child, but if she keeps her behavior this way I hope she won't end well.
I'm half way through the drama and I can understand the rating. It is fair MDL rating to be honest. This series lack of some bigger story/hook. The only mystery is about FL and what happened to her family and why she is the only one alive etc. But this is a very week hook so if someone is not interested in the investigation sub-plots, then I can get why they would drop it.
And those criminal stories are also not that great. There is always some coincidence or luck involved or sudden confession . It is fun the first time, ok next one, but by the third time it happens (epidemic) I was facepalming a little bit.
Overall most things don't bother me and I find it very entertaining mainly due to FL lead and partially ML. I like how little romance there is, it suits this show.
For me, this far, it is solid 6.5-7 (which means a good show, way above average), which means MDL score is relatively accurate as far as I'm concerned. Also IMO, this one is worth watching just for Bai Lu if that is your thing.
I think Youn Jung did a great job and acted perfectly. Unfortunately there is just no chemistry with ML (way more with Hiro but also not that much). Considering where this drama went in the 2nd half, it would be better if it would be "healling drama" instead of "romance drama". Also why only 12 episodes? There have been so many things just ignored and not explained/covered (mainly with parents for both leads, but also with the brother of with uncle and aunt). It had a lot potential, production value is there and if you like Youn Jung you will probably like it. For everyone else, it will be a waste of time. I personally liked it but i didn't love it.
I've enjoyed this one quite a bit until approximately 3/4 of the story when it dragged a little bit and then the ending felt rushed. Last 15 minutes could have been easily a separate full epilogue episode. Waste opportunity in my opinion. I liked the concept of evil empress that tries to live quiet a normal life but everything around pulls her again in the middle of the state affairs. And that not everything can be changed. Some things, no matter how hard we try will still happen. That were parts of the story I liked the most and that what kept me watching it. There is just one huuuuuuuuuuuuuge "but". The romance they went with was forced, there was no chemistry at all. Zero. Nothing. For me it was abuse and forced relationship rather than love (some would say unhealthy obsession even). I think it would be best if both leads would get different endings. Still she was an evil empress and he was plotting with the rebels. I was hoping for different, certainly less happy, ending. Those 2 things (romance and the ending itself) severely impacted my final score.
I think you missunderstood a story. In previous life, she was so cunning and it killed her. On second life, she…
Not at the beginning. I wrote it after 10 episodes, she become more cunning and smart later on. I honestly don't like how her character was written. Very uneven across the whole story.
I'm 10 episodes in and it is good, even very good but I have one gripe with it. I was looking for some good "go back in time" series where the knowledge of previous life is used to the advantage of the main character.
I don't see it here. FL is not smart not cunning not does she remeber enough of her previous life to make it relevant for the story. If she wasn't brought back in time, I don't think much would change for this series.
I have only 13 episodes left and ohh man I have the same feeling and came here to rant about that :) . There is…
I've pushed it until the end (FW a lot), and it is not getting any better. Wise choice to drop it, should have done it myself sooner but my monkey brain said it will get better... it didn't :)

Absolutely a must watch if you like melodramas.
