oh i’m so annoyed that hui ju didn’t wear the traditional clothes at the end of ep5, they looked so pretty😭

It's an intriguing possibility. But I don't think she bore the grand prince's illegitimate child because of her…
it would add some spicy drama haha. i had to go to class, so i’ll now finalllly finish ep3! but i enjoyed the first half of it👍🏼💛

These two are completely different dramas. This drama doesn’t event hide the fact that it’s not a serious…
"Love in the Clouds" was unfortunately not for me :( the only Gu Man story I liked was "Love Me, Love My Voice," "A Snowstorm of Love" was not for me either, so I didn't even give "Shine on Me" a chance 😪
If you prefer a HE/optimistic OE, then DON'T watch "Royal Nirvana" or "One and Only" lmao!
I actually really loved the second season of "Flourished Peony" although the misunderstandings between the leads weren't necessary at all. The romance paid off for me anyway, so I tolerated the tomfoolery🙏🏻🥰
"Pursuit of Jade" was good ... but the last episodes lost me a little, I grew tired of it. Overall, it was nice, but I wouldn't rewatch it tbh. "How Dare You!?" is on my watchlist!

"Meet Yourself" is A-mazing, I love the show so much I just finished my second rewatch the other day. It's so comforting and cozy, but has its funny and romantic moments as well. Perfectly balanced for me! (Another recent rec for a sweet contemporary drama is "Love Between Lines" btw)

I tried watching "Are You the One," but it did not quite click for me, I might try again because I like Zhang Wan Yu a lot, I just finished my (yes, again) rewatch of "The Rise of Ning," in which he was the male lead as well. Costume dramas are a hot box for me; I love "Story of Yanxi Palace," "The Prisoner of Beauty," "Eternal Love" (but only if I want to be ragebaited for almost 60 episodes), "Scarlet Heart," "The Legend of Shen Li," most recently I watched "Royal Nirvana" (PLUS the special, very imprortant; only watch if you want to subject yourself to 60 (plus 12) episodes of misery), an underrated gem I loved was "An Ancient Love Song," "One and Only," "New Life Begins" ... like I just looove a costume drama! (and I'm biased, I have my permanent clients I'm always on the lookout for!!!)

Modern c-dramas are hit or miss, I feel like I haven't quite found my niche tbh..

For Korean historical dramas I loved "My Dearest" and "Mr Sunshine" btw! :))🌟🌟

Yeah, that is why I love to rewatch "Business Proposal" (super minimal, barely there angst), but I never touched "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim" again haha. It was one of my first dramas, so I gave it a full score, but lowkey... not sure I'd give that 10 so freely again. (Aye, we all know the MDL rating is a bit odd sometimes🤣🙏🏻)

For c-dramas I have learned that I prefer costume dramas tbh! But some of my favorite contemporary ones include the silly and cliché "Be With You" (very comforting for me) and the healing slice of life "Meet Yourself," which I just finished rewatching! I hvae heard of your rec, I might try to watch it in the future! :)

I think I gave "Business Proposal" 9.5/10 simply because the last episode is so rushed and we don't get a wedding when that was lowkey the whole point🤣 "Love to Hate You" - I liked the main CP but not the second one! My rating is around 8/10 I think. "Because This Is My First Life" is still on my watchlist! I'll get to that ... eventually 🙏🏻👑 Then there's romcoms mixed with something more (such as "Hometown Cha Cha Cha," which I did give a 10/10 because I love it so much"), but I'm not sure if I really have many "pure" romcoms in my list... I've branched out a lot over the years

I did want to give the show until episode 3 to decide whether I'll continue, so I'll see tomorrow! :)
(And thank you for telling me about the epilogues, I did not know - will keep that in mind!)🙏🏻

i saw this argument coming when i wrote my own comment🙏🏻.

i know that these are two different genres, that doesn't stop me from comparing certain aspects anyway. unserious drama does not automatically mean that the writer can halfass characterization, i.e. Business Proposal (just my personal opinion); a more comparable character to hui ju's (if Business Proposal isn't the right example) could also be the female lead from "crash landing on you." So far, i'm missing the charm and SOME sort of depth to hui ju's character. i just find her very shallow and tbh not that likable - and that has nothing to do with iu, but the writing.

(edit: addition to my argument)

i do think iu is a wonderful actress, but the script and character quality between this show and "when life gives you tangerines" is .. very glaring tbh. let's see what ep3 will give me

To add on to this thread, when someone is plain about their feelings and open, you’d appreciate them over people…
Agree agree agree☺️! i’ve been saying at least dong man is a jerk to their face, and eun a said the same thing in the last episode as well (and already pointed out their inhumane hypocrisy). they’re putting on these airs and everything, but they’re too cowardly to be outward asses 🤣😒

imo I feel it’s an internal relatability for now. It’s a case of I don’t know why but get you and wanna…
yes! i love when a show/book “works” me tbh🤣🩷
it’s really about hearing all that is implied but not said out loud, and reading in between the lines! i really loved “can this love be translated” for that reason! and now this little gem…. great times ahead as dong man and eun a keep on learning new things about the other🌬️

I've been thinking about this since yesterday, but I feel like this show and this theme is almost like an extension of Youn Jung's drama "Can This Love Be Translated," in the sense that Eun A learns to understand Dong Man's language and way of expressing himself - she sees him for who he really is. I also think that they're kindred spirits; both are outsiders in their circles who view them as "weird" and borderline annoying, so I feel like that's another common point. Eun A lets Dong Man speak his mind without judgment and listens and sees him, and this freedom to express himself without being met with contempt and any airs of superiotity is what eases him.

DM believed he was a destructive monster, but at his core he is a caring and lovable person. Eun a can see this…
yes, exactly!
