I love that comparison to being fluent in 2 different languages! I certainly act differently between my Japanese family and my American family because there are a lot of cultural differences. (And my grandmother was always trying to fix my etiquette. So I for one am clearly not fluent in anything lol.)

Oh I totally agree. I was just trying to compare how much the maids have learned in the time Z has been gone. They couldn't identify one character and now they're helping LX do legal research. And they squeezed in learning between chores. I just love how their confidence in their own capabilities has grown.

And Z dishing out what she's been tortured with is exactly her character profile. She has no emotional regulation because she had to hold everything in all those years so she just lashes out when she can. You're right in it not being an excuse but it can definitely be a pattern with some people.

And I just realized Z and JQ both are a bit emotionally stunted. Grabbing at the things they want and taking them because they can lol.

"The Young Madam will find a way." I feel like that's this drama in a nutshell.

The unwavering belief these girls have in Lanxiang AND each other is one of my favorite parts of this drama. The girls have all carved out a family with each other that extends beyond the confines of their homes. These connections are for life. (And building a network of women they could rely on would have been priceless in that time) I especially loved seeing all the girls READING by candlelight. LX gave them courage to learn, but they along with Yuchan guiding them, took the initiative.

I'm still waiting for Zhao to take back some control and learn to read. I think she'd feel much more empowered if she could read her own account books, any book really (look how far the other girls have gotten in the time Z has been gone). In the scene btw her and LX, it was like her eyes had been opened to a whole new world, she was hungry for that new window of independence. Imagine if she had read those words herself. She’d feel like she could rule the empire. Which is a scary thought...

I wonder if Ji'er will tell LX that JQ showed up and turned the brothel UPSIDE DOWN to find her. But right now he doesn't need any extra points, I just want to see LX and Ji'er together lol.

Take this with a grain of salt but I read a comment from a viewer that watched an interview with LXY who said they only filmed one kiss scene. But I didn't see the interview so I don't know if that's true or not.

And you and me both.I know he was feeling all kinds of upset in that moment. He's emotionally on edge because of the lack of affection and he's become obsessed with the ghost of Han (sorry dude, I know you're still alive), he's made up this love story with a man she hasn't thought twice about since marrying him lol. Like you I hope he questions himself and remembers her words when he's in a calmer place.

Ep 30 felt like I was watching Anastasia. My heart! ;_;

I would really like to see the families reaction and JQ's if they ever realize who she really is (specifically the grandfather who seemed so haunted by the Shen execution when he emphasized keeping the family safe, and that the family deserved to "live" ). I can't imagine we go through this entire drama with her identity hidden. It's CDrama, whatever's hidden must be revealed at some point. (But I've been seeing comments that say they don't think it'll ever be revealed... >_> there are too many loose ends!)

LQ feels so much pain whenever that period (the Shen execution) is mentioned and now he's in this battle of wills with LX. Her family was ordered to death because of an emperor's decree, her freedom she'd worked so hard to gain was ripped away again by an emperors decree... and now she's in the place she first called home and lost everything. If he ever realizes he brought her to the home that was stolen away because of a decree..... yeesh. Guilt. Probably...

Her softly explaining to him the difference between the respect he would have showed a daughter of higher standing and her was brilliant. It was more poignant than any of the lashing out she was doing previously. It hit home for me. But he still didn't get it because he felt it was his only option. OTL I don't think there's anything wrong with borrowing power in certain situations, like LX was able to use the First Madams power when the family was poisoned to save them all. But I hope LX is able to pull this off without it. If only to show you don't need to always use a battering ram, no matter how glittery and jewel encrusted it may be.

I've been reading comments on and off for the past 2 hours, what time zones are you guys in that everyone's already watched Ep27!?!? (I mean I have too but it's so funny to me everyone's awake commenting on this wall this early - well, early for me lol).
