Yes! I've been thinking about restarting it to have something to watch between episodes lol. But we do get 2 Eps a day so it isn't really that bad... (I say as I stay up till the early morning waiting for episodes to release lol) I see you're almost done with The Road to Splendor, as a fellow Ming Lan lover how are you liking it?? I've been hesitant to start it because of some reviews I read. But now that it's aired I'm thinking about giving it a try.

Wait... is he gonna pull a Gu Tingye and get a mandate?? (I don't actually want to know! I don't want spoilers lol. I haven't even watched any of the series trailers). The Crown Prince making their connection known... his younger sister marrying into the Yuan family... I saw the guy who asked about his marriage eying him. Everyone is going to suddenly want to make a connection when the separation from the Zhao's made him a pariah before. >_< The butterflies are going to be flying around HIM now lol.

It's my favorite drama ever! I've watched Ming Lan from beginning to end over 8 times and I've been CRAVING a drama that will fill that space since it aired. <3 This is definitely that for me.

I totally agree. Definitely admirable but foolish, specifically in that era. She didn’t know his temperament yet, or maybe she did so that’s why she acted so brashly. She knew her family was their savior so she could throw her weight around. Standing up to him on their first night showed her strength to not be a pawn in the only way she could control in that moment.

But she let that arrogance set the tone for the rest of their marriage (And by arrogance, I’m not talking about her refusing to sleep with him, go ahead girl, tell him you’re sick and hide the affair forever. But the arrogance she said it with, as if to say, don’t even dream about this being a proper marriage, you’ll never have peace with me). And I think things could have turned out differently if she had played her cards right.

Not every female character has to be as cautious and intelligent and self aware as LX to survive, but she brought a bulldozer to the marriage when she could have started planting seeds. She met him with animosity at every turn. She was angry with the world. She wanted to learn and make more of herself. But she didn’t take all those years she’d isolated herself from her husband to learn to read and write and do accounting, and find a way to glean out some independence in a household where she basically did what she wanted. Her MIL was even willing to overlook things because of her position.

Her character is really tragic though. Through the other female characters we see the other paths LX’s character could have taken and chose not to. Like with CQ, LX could have easily been the one to poison the entire family and actually had reason enough to do it. And I’m definitely not saying XT’s character deserves what’s happening to her. She’s basically a slave with a bigger purse string at this point.

I needed to see how she rose from this. And seeing the preview for the next episode really helped because I knew there was some closure coming. But also, the acting was superb, the cinematography was beautiful, and it felt similar to how I felt after watching the first few episodes of Ming Lan. These were characters I could follow for a long time because I needed to see how they rose from the tragedy. And because I KNEW/KNOW they will, it made/makes it easier.

The dichotomy of LX walking away from the Lin household with her parents, arm in arm with her freedom and so much laughter on the left side of the screen... while Zhao is in her next marriage carriage being taken away in the opposite direction on the right side of the screen, while everyone cheers around them... The difference is so stark. Life was so unfair for women then, but like LX has shown, the choices they make can alter their situations in other ways. And these women had more status and leverage. Like Xiuru being inspired to go after what she wants. (I was so proud of her in that scene!!!!)

Zhao would have been better off with Lin if she had entered the marriage strategically instead of arrogantly throwing mud in his face on their wedding night. Despite losing his first fiancé, he didn't seem to enter this marriage with any unhappiness, but she drew the line that first night and never tried to even have an amicable relationship. (But of course that leaves a spot open for LX so I'm not mad lol) And then we have CQ who raged against societies constraints and resented everyone else for it. And after all that loss, still blames others for her misfortune.

But LX had her family, wealth, and happiness ripped away from her and watched each member die horribly. But instead of trying to change what can't be changed, and holding anger for something that can't be fixed, at least right now, she's living the best life she can, and giving back the love and care both sets of parents raised her with to those around her. She's not letting the sacrifice of her family overshadow the gift she's been given. And more and more we see her willing to shine brighter and brighter.

I've been thinking that since the beginning. They're doing an amazing job!
