Well, all 3 couples did love each other but fate had other plans. Anyways ren susu and qingyi did had some romance lol a love making session and multiple kisses. Good thing this drama is not straight up about war, it also have other themes too. This may not be the lovey dovey drama because it's the republican era, but it did have a touch of romance in there too.

Overdo is good but the open ending doesn't sit right with me. The republican era is dark and tragic but they didn't have to make it this tragic. I'm going to need zhang linghe and wang churan to star in another drama together, but this time with a happy romance. That will serve as a redemption and heal my trauma 😭

It's an open ending. If he is ready to die he will join his brothers and loved one when he saw an illusion of them. Usually if you saw an illusion of love ones and they told you to go back, it means you will return to the living.
