Easy answer: they liked a certain idea of the books and overall theme, so they wanted to use that idea for the script. They wrote pretty much a whole new story using the original story and made it more appealing to the generap Chinese audience. Let's not forget that the prime focus of Chinese dramas are not the international audience and fans, but the domestic ones. They don't make series for us, so even if we complain, our complaints and ratings do not affect the success of certain works inside China.

I get why the fans of novel are mad, but movies and series will never be an accurate representatiof of books and that's mostly how that works in China. If the same work was re-made in Korea or Japan, maybe the playboy would just remain the playboy.

This one is banned in China and it is not labeled as 'Chinese' anywhere in China. They registered this drama as Taiwanese and another bl as Singaporean to avoid Chinese ban, but it's still banned in Mainland and not accessible anywhere on Chinese streaming platforms.

I hope so. Hugging and holding hands would be fine I guess (for the sake of romance in the plot). I trust that both actors will deliver all the emotions even without all that. I remember Neo didn't have any close romantic scenes with Chen Duling in Fangs of Fortune, but it didn't harm the plot. Also, AiMi and Zuo Ye didn't have anything too extra in the two projects they collaborated as love interests, so I think we have to trust the screenwriter and director on this drama as well. 🙌

Guys I have a question. 🙌 But first, a disclaimer. I am not a hater, I have a genuine question for those who have seen some bts clips of this. Will there be any romantic scenes between the leads since Ai Mi is only 17? Or will they release this drama next year after Ai Mi turns 18 and then all the romantic scenes will be justified because at the time of release she will no longer be a minor? I have seen similar thing happen in a BL world in Thailand, so I am curious how China is going to handle this...

I am on episode 12 and it did get better btw, after around episode 8. I am pretty much halfway in and I hope the rest of the plot is not dragged though. I loved episode 8 actually and it was tge first episode since ep1 that I really enjoyed differently (that's when we got the first kiss, sooooo) ☺️ I'll comment once more after I'm done with all the episodes.

One episode per week is such a slow pace... I think once this drama ends I'll just binge rewatch it, otherwise I sometimes forget what's happening between episodes 😂😂 I'm currently watching 5 ongoing dramas and all of them except this one update daily 🥹🥹🥹🥹
