O ponto da crítica não é que usam maquiagem, mas sim que as produções estão cada vez mais focando apenas na aparência dos atores de forma que a qualidade das histórias está cada vez pior. Porque as empresas perceberam que desde que os atores sejam lindos a história pode ser uma merda que ainda vai ter audiência. E a maquiagem é utilizada para isso: deixar os atores com rostos cada vez mais "perfeitos" mesmo quando não faz sentido nenhum na história.

It's difficult to dream watching dramas with twilight zone faces that are freakly becoming more and more alien each year.

Their point is very clear: the dramas are getting too shallow by extremely focusing on good looks only, achieved by using hellish amounts of make up which is getting weirder and unrealistic year by year, to the detriment of the quality of the overall story.

if you watch dramas from ten years ago you can see a lot of different and natural skin tones, if you watch the dramas from today half the characters are sickly pale looking with red eye shadow. I think it's really ugly, but more importantly: it's weird that everyone is using the same make up!!!!

This show wasn't translated after ep 19. You wold need to convince someone to take on this project, and few translators are up to translate a historical taiga drama.

This is the first xianxia I've ever watched that doesn't have that awful white light making every scene looks like it was recorded in a hospital hallway. I'm loving it, it's much more natural (although chinese dramas have a long way to go to achieve good lightning). If anyone has other recommendations where there is NO WHITE LIGHT, please, please for the love of God recommend it to me. Thanks!
