I hope you're right. I really like the donghua, but that can make it difficult to enjoy a live adaptation if they change the story too much. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for this. It's on my to be watched list and I've been looking forward to it because I really like the donghua. I'm pretty skeptical and I don't normally watch live action remakes because they usually change the story too much and ruin it (cough cough Snow Eagle Lord). But recently there have been a few like the two you named, especially Immortal Ascension, and others like How Dare You that have given me hope that they would do justice to this one as well. But looking at the comments, I'm reconsidering watching. Somebody was talking about vampires and I was like ... huh??? And I kept scrolling and people who know the source material are talking about the changes that make no sense and how much they nerfed main dude....

But I'll give it a chance and watch the first few episodes to see if I can handle it before writing it off completely.

Hence, the weird red dust disappearing act at 35:53 (Initially I was sad because I thought that meant Sang Sang's spirit died with all her memories of Ning Que & Man's World, as Haotian said all her memories of Man's World would die when Ning Que did.) Since Sang Sang and the Heavenly maid became one, her heart opens to Ning Que as we see her holding his head in her lap. "Having experienced her inner frustrations as his servant for so many years, Ning Que gives her the option to make a decision for herself and lets her decide where to go next. When they leave West Shrine with Blacky and the carriage to return to Man's World she reappears in her earthly form as Sang Sang. Sang Sang mentions she had a dream about a woman who took her to Heaven. As the incarnation of Haotian, her memories of Haotian are sealed again upon their return. At Yan Se's grave, we hear Ning Que say "I did it." He's referring to completing his mission that his teacher and the Academy gave him, protecting Tang with the formation & preventing Haotian from returning to Heaven/preventing Ever Night. Ning Que, Sang Sang, their teachers Yan Se & Wei Guangming, the Academy, and Fu Zi have won the battle against Haotian, preventing Ever Night from recurring. Sang Sang's connection to Man's World (Ning Que & her friends), Ning Que's love & persistence in not leaving her at West Shrine, and Fu Zi's tactic of putting his love for humanity (The power of Man's World) in Heavenly Maid all caused her to decide to experience life in Man's World. She is no longer cold and heartless, but now has compassion like the humans she used to refer to as "ants". Hence, she will not destroy humanity with Ever Night. The ending scenes are very choppy hence the confusion. Heavenly Maid did give a very broad answer to Ning Que's "Where do you want to go?" So he took her to see their masters, as winning the battle against Ever Night was part of their life's work. So it makes complete sense. Ning Que got his Sang Sang back. This is an excellent series. I love it. While I've always hoped that season 3 would happen, it's been 5 years so I doubt it. But, I just finished a rewatch and so many things make more sense now. It ended well for Sang Sang and Ning Que, on a happy note. I was confused about it before, but now I understand. For those of you who are still confused or upset about the ending, I'm going to repost a long comment explanation in the spoiler that I copied from a poster on Youtube. What we would have gotten in Season 3 is the fight against the final boss, The Temple Master,Chen Pipi's father and the closing of all the loose strings. I'd have loved to see that.

I just started watching Road to Splendor. I really like Ryan Ding but I'm having trouble getting into this one. It's not catching me or pulling me in. I'm just about to start episode 3 and I keep clicking off to check out something else. I see all the great reviews, but I'm not feeling it. Wondering if it's just slow getting started with the story. Keep going or drop?

I don't know about it being a prequel, but it's an excellent show. First season will have you laughing your @$$ off. Second season is ongoing. As it progresses it gets less funny goes more into mythology and becomes more serious/action heavy with a little romance and humor sprinkled in here and there yet is still an excellent show. There are 150+ episodes in seasons 1 and 2 so far. It's not finished yet but I do recommend.

This is a live action of one of my favorite donghuas. Shixiong a Shixiong, or My Senior Brother is Too Steady. I've really been looking forward to this. From the comments, I'm glad to see that most people are enjoying it so far. I won't watch until there's a few more episodes out, but as long as they don't change the story up too much this should be a great ride.

Does anyone know where I can watch this with English subtitles ? I found it on YouTube but there are no subtitles and I don't speak/read Mandarin.

I don't think so. That was a human reaction of jealousy. Unreasonable from our perspective, yes. But still a human reaction. Remember the times. As a young woman from a respectable family, she wasn't supposed to have had any outside "relationships." She had several opportunities to come clean and just tell him about what was actually just a crush, a letter, and a rejection but she didn't. Again, understandable for a teenager from our perspective. From his perspective, it appeared that she had been in love with his adopted son. If she had told him then he wouldn't have been caught off guard, and had his first bout of insecurity ever. He reacted badly, but not in a way that would have made him a red flag. A red flag would have been if he'd lashed out and purposefully hurt her or showed vindictive/manipulative/vengeful behavior that would hint at later abusive tendencies. But he did none of those things, he walked away and said he needed to be alone. That was a mature reaction to an immature emotion. He knew he was over the top and walked away from her in order to deal with his own nonsense. And he figured it out very quickly. He was a green flag for her throughout the series, as he was always supportive of her and respected her choices. He never took away her agency and trusted her word and her ability throughout.

Watch it! It's that good. No idea how I missed this while it was airing.

HOW is this just 7.9?! This is a great wuxia! I've been using MDL for years and finally got an account today just so I could leave a comment in support. The fight scenes, the friendships, the cast, everything is on point! I don't understand the low rating, except that it's not a romance and most folks on MDL (me included) love romances. Like any good wuxia - themes of social justice, fighting corruption, standing up for the downtrodden while upholding righteousness and brotherhood with the strength of your sword arm. I love it. The main and supporting actors are excellent. It's action packed and the fight scenes are FIRE. Takes me back to Saturday morning Kung Fu Flicks in the 80s. There's even a version of the 5 Deadly Venoms in this! IYKYK. Anyway, this is a 10 for me so far. I'm on episode 33 with my feet up and some popcorn.
