I agree with the stats you mentioned - but at the end of the day it is a fictional setting. Nationality aside, if it is a talented person they should be cast in a role that is a fit or a close fit. Of course, not just randomly casting them to any role that does not fit the narrative.
Hence, hoping that there are more diverse roles available in K-dramas, so that talented foreign actors/actresses can be cast in them.
Anyone else noticed how Yoon Ena constantly is changing her finger nail colors? Cute!
I am loving this drama - it is such a treat and keeping me on the edge. Good decision to have waited and watch it together, with just the final 2 episodes left to air this week! Anyone else wondering whether they should start - I am on Ep 4, but so far this is REALLY good from a suspense perspective!
Ep 4 - Son Suk Ku casually removing his jacket, taking a run up to climb a wall. Meanwhile delulu me seeing him in that shoulder holster belt and smiling like a fool ππ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Just finished Ep 2 - and I have my list of suspects. I know it is too early to predict, and I could be completely wrong. But then that's the fun and good thing about dramas like this, you can join in the characters in the who-dunnit chase.
Sharing my suspect(s) in first comment, under spoiler tag. While this is my solo venture - to see how on or off my guess was, feel free to share your thoughts - whosoever is reading this and watching the drama.
True, but also change is needed. I myself agree that it should not just be a diversity check-boxed and inclusion of racially diverse cast - but the man has proven his talent, time and again - hence am a bit surprised.
And yes like you pointed out - I understand the constraints or inhibitions - but then that's the thing - I wish it weren't so! Let's hope the future projects have a better role for him and other talented artists like him!
Shoutout to Gaus Electronics for bucking the stereotype and having a thriving, hilarious desi character!
I am yet to watch that drama (I KNOW Its amazing - has been on PTW forever) but I know what you mean - have seen many short videos and forwards sent my drama friends on it! π
I mean, its Korean drama...what do you expect? They can't imagine him as a businessman or a Tech CEO. Labourer…
That's the thing we have to change - and hence I did not mention main roles in my original post. But why can't a main lead actor have a brown man as his friend or any other support/guest role.
I know he's played a role of a Saudi prince in another drama - and that was fine too. That is what I mean - as an actor he has definitely shown a lot of potential in Squid Game, and his character was well loved for the acting, and of course the emotional bit. That was in 2021 and so I was hoping by now - we would have more diverse roles for talented artists and not stereotype them to few roles.
So true; I guess change is a slow, arduous process. At least he has roles hazardous or not. Indeed grateful for…
Absolutely - we need to be grateful for what we have and wishing for things to be even better in future. So glad that he is become such a recognizable face and hoping the growth trajectory keeps going upwards!
I think the only reason people could savour the twist was because of the acting, since this plot was somewhat…
In a way - yes. It is one of those dramas that were going well, and steadily raising the bar one episode after another. But then it hit the brakes suddenly and started free falling from last 4 episodes. AND purely because of the plot - the actors played their characters to a perfection, but how much can they do if the plot goes haywire?
Still, I would recommend this drama but with precautions and the expectation that the ending episodes may not be up to the mark.
Can i suggest you few cdramas? 1. Love me, Love my voice. it is a beautiful romance story with no second leads,…
I have recently gotten into C-dramas, so this is REALLY helpful. I have tried to get into C-dramas but it has been difficult for reasons I cannot clearly pinpoint. But this descriptions really help - thank you for taking the time and explaining it in so much details. I'll at it to my PTW and once I do watch them, will connect to discuss/gush over them π€πΌ
I think lee junyoung might be enlisting next year, coz he said he is going to release an album first(?)He had…
Yes - I don't really follow celeb news - just hot reels hahaha - especially the ones circulating more than ever for Jun and his diverse roles this year. In that I got across a news article which shared he might enlist this or next year. Given that people of his birth year and around are enlisting - I won't be surprised that he will announce it too. I just wish we get to see more his work in any shape or form to keep us company while he serves his duty!
Our super strict Director eating tteokbokki. It was shockingly good how he gave in to Mi-Ran. Itβs soo obvious…
IKR! Like these two fools just didn't realise that they like/love each other until now. But better late than ever - after all this is what rom-com is all about, especially in K-dramas.
And yes - 2025, this is my 3-4 drama that has been 10/10 from the start, like nothing is a negative about this. While I understand and respect different viewpoints the rating being <8 kind of makes me sad - I wish more people would give it a chance!
Ep 10 - Thoughts: [1] OMO ALEXXX π₯π₯π₯ [2] Do Hyeon Jeon is the soul of this drama. If he is not onscreen/feeling down, we feel low too[3] Frenemies like Roy and DHJ are β€οΈ - also is that a tiny spark I see with Roy and Rosa? [4] What the Tteokbokki, ending scene and epilogue π
From Tteokbokki is Terrible to devouring huge servings of it,Confession of "liking Tteokbokki" Romance is Romancing - and it was worth the wait! It was always there, just needed in our faces and sealed with a π So, Can't Wait for the Finale Week for it all to unfold. While I can't wait for it I will also miss this drama - these past weeks it has become such a comfort watch!
Off Topic: Also now that Rowoon and Cha Eun Woo announced their military enlistment + given how 2025 has been crazy busy for Lee Jun Young, I am getting a feeling he might announce his own soon??
P.S. Also still wondering why is this drama rated 7.8 πππππ WHAT THE ERROR? Should be at least 8, if not 10 - please give this drama a chance!
I am still debating on whether to watch it or not. The summary was not that attractive to me, but I wanted to give it a try for the ML - cause cmon, Kang Haneul - and the rating being 8+.
I was skeptical of the FL cause while I have seen her only in the Frog, I was not convinced with her acting as such. And now reading all the comments - I am doubtful again.
Given it is 10 eps, is it worth starting/watching?
OMG - with these two men - KYK & KNG - sharing the same screen space - this will such a feast to EYES, MIND AND HEART! Handsome and Talented AF! Can't Wait π₯β€οΈβπ₯π₯
also --- why does the article date say, 2023? It got published recently and the drama is supposed to be released in 2025. WHAT THE CONFUSION!
Ep 9 - Damn this is how you do wonderful stories, use age-old formula of ex-GF in a new fresh way! Anyone wondering…
Many are wondering why the ex-girlfriend Kang Sol was introduced so briefly only to be killed off - as we understood in end of Ep 9 and by Ep 10 preview.
I personally thought it was a good angle - like they did not stretch it out and make Kang Sol a mean, conniving ex coming back to be a thorn for our main couple. She in a way is perhaps a catalyst for the love story and also more.
1) Her role in bringing the main couple close: β₯ She made Mi Ran feel jealous, then overcome it. We get to know that she is rooting for Mi Ran, and in fact her presence makes Mi Ran be a bit more bold and take action. β₯ Director Do also has feelings for Mi Ran: I mean it was obvious from the start when he gave the jacket, then followed her to the other gym in secret, then also shoved her ex at the bus stop and now running barefoot with her on the back. Just need them to seal it with a kiss, for these fools to realise that they are in love.
2) Kang Sol's second part of comeback reason: β₯ This will be more evident in coming episode. β₯ Her death would be blamed on Director Do. She was an influencer and so people will look for targets to blame her death on and given the preview looks like its falling on Director Do. β₯ Maybe the 24-Hour Club will be in danger of shutting down, but Director Do will have unwavering support from Mi Ran, bringing them closer β₯ Further, looks like Lee Roy might help out in some way; making amends to their otherwise banter/rivalry β₯ Ultimately something from Kang Sol's archive posts/or future scheduled posts will be revealed and people will realise Director Do is innocent OR Mi Ran and Director Do will clear the latter's name bringing them closer
Hence, I loved the way they used the ex-girlfriend formula in a very refreshing way. It all fits quite well, and till now we don't hate any character or so. Its all still in good fun, emotional bits, and hopefully NEVER A SAD ENDING!
Hence, hoping that there are more diverse roles available in K-dramas, so that talented foreign actors/actresses can be cast in them.

Here, Squid Games, Strangers from Hell (only Hazardous situation)?
Also a part of me expected him to land bigger roles - good support roles, if not main roles after Squid Games. Wonder why... πππ
