(Intro: Tian Jiarui on Sincerity and Challenges)
Tian Jiarui: The more you are capable of doing, the stronger your ability becomes. I feel that as long as you do it well and love what you do, you can convey what you want. That is what makes a good actor. Host (Zhang Chaofan): It is often said that sincerity is the most important quality for an actor. How do you interpret this word, "sincerity"? Tian Jiarui: Only when something comes genuinely from the heart, with real feelings and inspiration, can you achieve what you want in the best way. It is because of sincerity that passion exists.
Tian Jiarui: Hello to all the friends and followers of Xinhua, I am actor Tian Jiarui.
Host: "The Legend of Yue Lin Qi Ji" is currently a huge success. In the series, you play three different roles. In many dramas, when an actor plays multiple characters, the challenge is massive because of the constant identity shifts. When you first saw the script, what made you think, "I must take this role"? Tian Jiarui: The more challenging a task is, the more I enjoy doing it. I like pushing boundaries. Acting, as a profession, has no ceiling—there is no maximum limit. There is no fixed standard of measurement; it is about getting infinitely closer to the character you are playing. Being infinitely close to them. Tian Jiarui: I felt that in this series, there would be an opportunity to experience different styles and stages of a character, their mindsets, and identities. For me, it is challenging, and that’s why I wanted to try it. Host: Out of these three characters, which one do you like the most? Tian Jiarui: I like the Ji Ling phase the most. Because Ji Ling is more innocent, romantic... he doesn't overthink things or worry much. He expresses what he sees, hears, and thinks very directly. It is a very pure stage. Host: And very sincere. Before filming started, did you do any special preparation? No actor can be completely separated from themselves when shaping a character; there is always a shadow of the actor in the role. When empathizing with a character, do you look for similar situations in your own life? Tian Jiarui: Perhaps. Although the setting is hundreds or thousands of years ago in a fantasy world, the essence and the "root" of the things that happen are the same. I feel that as long as you find that common ground, you can interpret the character. Host: During filming, were there any moments of improvisation that you felt turned out even better? Tian Jiarui: There were many. Especially during the Ji Ling phase. At the beginning of the series, the director wanted a lighter and more cheerful atmosphere. Ji Ling’s personality fits that perfectly. His interaction with Lu Yi creates a strong contrast and a natural chemical reaction. Based on Ji Ling’s personality, I added some small expressions and reactions that he would naturally have. Host: After finishing this project, what was your biggest takeaway? Tian Jiarui: The takeaway was... perhaps thinking a bit more than before. Whether in acting or reflecting on life, I end up incorporating the logic of these people (the characters). Host: Did you also see more possibilities for yourself through this role? Tian Jiarui: You could say so. I discovered the paths through which I can understand and shape a character. Host: As an actor, you also ventured into singing for the soundtrack (OST) and participated in various events and variety shows. How was the transition from actor to singer? What did you gain from this process? Tian Jiarui: I feel I haven't fully transitioned into a singer. Publicly, I still present myself as an actor. But regarding singing, I have always been someone who loves music privately. My current contact with music is through drama OSTs. Tian Jiarui: As an actor, I use music to express the emotions the character needs to convey, integrating them into the song. This complements some technical skills I might lack, allowing me to deliver that music to the audience. I would say I am still learning. Through the character's emotions, I transform that into melody to convey what the character wants to say. Host: This time, for "The Legend of Yue Lin Qi Ji", you participated in the OST. What is the special feeling of singing a song for a character you portrayed yourself? Tian Jiarui: It is very special. In the drama, I use dialogue, but in the music, I need to use the melody to express myself. Host: How do you make that connection? Tian Jiarui: When I recorded the song, filming had already finished. I had already experienced all the scenes. So, when singing, I can put more feeling into it. The final effect is that when the audience hears the music, the images from the drama pop into their heads. If that happens, I feel it was a success. Tian Jiarui: I feel the common point between the two is that, whether as a singer or an actor, you are using a medium to transmit emotions to the audience. Our core is the same. A good singer also makes images appear in the listener's mind through the emotion of every word. Host: Whether as a singer or an actor, the most important thing is the delivery.
"Jiarui, who understands! A single arrow pierced my heart 💘 Oh no, my heart is in love~ RNW's archery masterpiece ✨ Every frame is a critical hit 💥🥰 Cool and handsome + gentle and shy, the contrast is incredible 💫 A perfect, breathtaking moment, captured to perfection 💓"
"We met when the flowers bloomed, shared joys and sorrows along the way, and with a touch of glory in our roles, we moved towards a more distant future. This journey is complete, but our steps will not cease."
What are you looking at, Lord Jiuchuan? And thinking about it, I think the makeup artist is Jiarui's favorite distraction! 🤭🤭🩷 - Day 42 of Jiarui's filming and Day 48 of production 🩷
Yes, the author gave permission and the director owns the legal rights for her own adaptations.
I completely understand you...we went over 500 days without seeing Jiarui shine on screen (in dramas) and when he shone in VOS it was incredible! 😍😍 I hope we don't have to wait much longer for his next performance! 🥹🩷
My Number One: The Unforgettable Audacity of Gong Yuanzhi 🐍
It's a constant challenge for anyone dedicated to following every step of an artist like Tian Jiarui. When you admire someone's talent so uniquely, each new role becomes a new passion, and it's natural to feel that all versions of him are perfect in their own way. But, even with an open heart for all his characters, Gong Yuanzhi (My Journey to You) occupies a sacred place that is impossible to ignore. What makes Yuanzhi my "number 1" is not just Jiarui's impeccable acting, but that magnetic personality that overflows with audacity. In this specific scene of the gentle path, he sums it all up: the rebellion, the defiance of rules, and that unwavering confidence that borders on mockery. He hears that he must go "one by one" and decides that his own path is the only one that matters. It's this mix of extreme loyalty with a touch of charming "villainy" and audacious behavior that captivates me. Ranking him as my favorite isn't ignoring Rui's versatility in other dramas, but rather recognizing that Yuanzhi was the character who set a standard of charisma and screen presence that will always be my safe haven. For me, he will always be proof that audacity, when well-interpreted, is absolutely irresistible. 🖤
