I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't read the webtoon beforehand. I'm not sure if the whole webtoon is still available now though, it might have been deleted so people wouldn't see the spoilers.

Sorry but I couldn't ignore it when some changes to the plot of the webtoon really brought down my enjoyment of the show.
- Main character, Hyun Su doesn't have much of a personality or character growth. Female firefighter seemed to be more of the focus of the show.
- Characters didn't show much teamwork. In source material, the main MCs worked together.
- Monsterization process, one of the most interesting parts, was not elaborated.
- They didn't highlight enough that the monster form they become is linked to their desires.
- The fact that monsters will become stronger as you fight them isn't shown enough, so they didn't seem intimidating. Also, the monsters became less scary over time.
- Actually the situation didn't even seem desperate and monsters didn't even appear in every episode. There isn't much internal conflict, which is too unrealistic if you put a bunch of strangers together.
- The place was too much of a safe haven for actual suspense. Towards the end, it even seemed as if the whole building was vacant of monsters. So the rest of the residents in the whole building just disappeared or...? Why even trap yourselves on the first floor then?
- Most likeable characters were thrown aside or killed off.
- I would say the first 2 or so episodes were better than the rest.
- Am I supposed to root for the gangster guy because I can't force myself to like him.
- They totally missed out on the coolest human to monster transformations.
- last episode was all over the place and the direction they seem to be going for season 2 doesn't interest me.
- In general they took out important details and introduced subplots with not much purpose.

Sorry for the long ass rant lmao. It's still a decent watch, but they took an A++ material, skimmed through the parts that set it apart from the rest, and turned it into a more generic monster show. It's a shame because I kind of had higher expectations.
The casting and acting is spot on though.
Edit: One change I did like was Eun-hyuk's sister's personality. It made the ending become more emotional.

I finished the webtoon earlier this year just to pass time and surprisingly enjoyed it. I'm hoping they can replicate the eerie-ness of the webtoon, though I doubt CGI monsters can look even half as creepy as the comic.

The only flaw in this movie is the length. The start was too slow and things only picked up about an hour in. It would have been perfect if the introduction was reduced by 15 minutes and maybe an extra 10 minutes elaborating on the latter half of the show. But once that was over with and the battle started, it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Also gotta give props to the actors who seemed to do most of the stunts themselves and the beautiful sets.

This show was just trying to recreate My Love from the Star but with 50% of the effort. I had no interest in the sageuk parts. The comedy didn't work. The most off-putting thing is the fact that they got an actress like Jun Ji Hyun but wrote her character into a bore after the first few episodes, gave her zero backstory or personality and made her entire character revolve around one guy she just met. She became a supporting character for Lee Minho. It was such a scale down from Cheon Songyi I bet even JJH herself was frustrated.

I watched this 3-4 years ago, never got past the halfway mark and don’t even remember most of the plot.

Jun Ji Hyun finally!!
I'm curious about what's the mystery central to the plot. The current description doesn't seem to disclose that. But knowing the writer, it will probably be something epic.

I was not expecting to like this so much, or cry like a baby while watching this... The nostalgia is real, even as a non-korean who grew up in the 90s. It's very clear that this show was written by people who actually experienced the 80s and every storyline was written from the bottom of the heart. 9/10

It's very understandable to see ppl here say this show is overrated. Imo, this show just isn't the type to age well. In 2013, the alien premise was refreshing and original. I think it sparked a trend in the fantasy romance genre which became overused now. And the plot/writing is definitely not the focus as there were lots of lazy writing and unresolved parts.

I enjoyed this show when it first aired especially for Jun Ji Hyun (my first korean crush)'s hilarious antics and great acting. But if you're watching this for the first time now, many parts will scream "cliche korean drama" and will likely feel outdated lol. Korean dramas now are going in a better direction and people have higher expectations. In fact there used to be a prejudice against kdramas for being too cliche and romance focused and that's mostly gone now. The shows now have a much higher quality.

Anyway, this drama still significantly contributed to the hallyu wave. It had a big impact and literally everyone around me was watching it back then.
