He’s currently on a concert tour that will run until at least early September. There have been some casting rumors floating around, but nothing solid yet.
The only piece of information that might hint at something more credible is that Yulele (the production company behind the modern suspense drama 春日回响/ Spring Echoes, which had been rumored earlier this year) sent him a congratulatory flower basket on July 25, at the start of his concert tour. So it kind of implies that they’re planning--or at least hoping--to work with him in the future, and that the drama could still be in the works.
It was shaping up so well until the final few episodes. How did the master drug maker not know his own formula…
The professor wasn’t the original drug maker. He was pressured into taking over the operation after his student was killed. Originally, the professor had been trying to develop a cure for depression. His student used parts of that research to create the drug. After the student’s death, his criminal accomplices approached the professor and convinced him to manufacture a similar drug for them. At the time, the professor was strapped for funds, so he deluded himself into believing it was all for the greater good.

The show was filmed in 2024, but the script was written around 2019 and had been gathering dust for five years. It was considered a fairly risky project (no existing IP to rely on, and a real chance of not passing censorship due to its dark themes), so the producers only managed to secure funding after Luo Yunxi signed on.

I get the feeling the creators were heavily pressured to cut everything deemed “non-essential” from the plot. The Truth Within was filmed right around the time Youku execs decided that only short, “Netflix-style” series would be allowed on the platform from 2025 onward. They’ve since backtracked on that decision, but for some shows, the damage may already have been done.
