The plot is advancing rather quickly, a bit too fast imho, and Xiahou Dan is already falling for Yu Wanyin by episode 2, and I don’t think they’ve established their relationship yet too finally bloom into love, so it made me doubt his feelings as pure love. Rather, I think what he felt for Wanyin at the beginning is more like fellow victims of fate, but he confuses it as love.
Though the plot doesn’t quite click it for me (I’m not a novel reader), I admire the exquisite settings and mesmerizing camera angles. The set is grand and the costume is whimsical, Wanyin’s make up truly fits her as Demonic Consort too, for she feels unreal.
Overall, I think I overestimate this drama a bit because the storytelling is quite messy, but I totally love every other aspect! Very satisfying to watch
It’s been sooooooo long since I was so invested and excited on a Love Triangle 💕💕 I love Hu Xiu’s chemistry with Pei Zhen, and I’ve always loved the idea of a villain second lead who is evil and cunning ❤️🔥❤️🔥
I really love Reba and Xingxu’s chemistry and the plot was interesting, but I had a really hard time watching this and not feel bored. I keep falling asleep mid-watching it. I don’t know if it’s the vibes or too much talking or the plot going painfully slow. Some scenes were really interesting, like the first fight between Yan Tui and Jiu Luo, or the first real showdown between Jiu Luo and two humanoid earth fiends that are on the way to Xicang, but the rest of the scenes were painfully dull, it’s extremely difficult for me to go on 😭
I totally love the chemistry between the leads but the story and some stunts were just so lame. I wished they had taken a more serious tone with all this. I feel like cdramas have finally taken a step more into the world of dramas, as the camera angles, the color grading, some set details, are mesmerizing. But the plot execution doesn’t able to grab viewers’ attention for long. Truly a great drama tho, but maybe not my cup of tea (especially after I had just finished 5th season of Stranger Things so my expectations were extremely high and honestly doesn’t go apple to apple with this drama). I hope one day when my palate has been cleansed, I can properly enjoy this drama to its end.
Things I love is how beautiful every shot is, and showcasing Dilraba’s beauty up close is just chef’s kiss! I love her clothes, it feels like it can start a trend called Nie Jiu Luo-core. And I love how uncanny Lin Xi Rou is. I can feel that she’s inhuman, like there’s this eerie and uncanny feeling about her. Xiong Hei honestly just feel like a regular thug whose brow bleaching gone wrong.
I’ve watched this up to episode 6 and am loving it so far but it certainly has things it can improve:
1. CGI, looks cheap as hell I wish they put more budget on it 2. Nanshan hunters’ clothes. With traditional chinese element all over I wished they had integrated more chinese element into their uniform, like their neckline or buttons thing. I don’t really like the cheap miner bomber look they’re going for. 3. Despite all the flashbacks I don’t develop any kind of sympathy towards the hunters. They feel one dimensional and lacking any life. They feel like NPV Army in a war strategy game you don’t really care for.
Just watched up to episode 3 and I must say the details of this drama is mesmerizing! Everything is visually and aesthetically pleasing. The color grading is captivating. The plot is unique and the leads are my favorites (Reba & Chen Xingxu). Overall, I’m enjoying this so much.
Just finished 2 episodes and tbh I didn’t expect that I would really like it! The plot is refreshing with some unique twists that separate it from Sageuk predecessors but also feels nostalgic and reminds us of the beauty of old Sageuks. I can’t really explain it but maybe the vibes or how the story is told gives me really nostalgic feelings and it’s been awhile since the last time I enjoy a good Sageuk.
I’m really enjoying it so far but I don’t think it needs the body swap plot as it’s already complex as it is with the whole destiny, reborn, evil minister, and everything. I think the body swap plot would mess it up? Or will it be pivotal for their success in overthrowing the evil minister?
Woah the suspense of the first 4 episodes!! It was sooooooooo good! Kim Yoo-jung’s acting is phenomental. Her empty stare, vengeful smirks, everything is chef’s kiss!
She’s a top manipulator. But she is also very sloppy in the way she plans her crimes. There are too many variables that could ruin her plan. Of course the police would always be three steps ahead in their investigation. This wasn’t the 80s. So I think she just lose her patience and make do with such faulty plan.
The universe is simply on her side. She always seems to find a way out in everything she does, no matter how dangerous it is. Let’s see if she would improve in her crimes in the upcoming episodes. I can’t wait!!!
Oof! Just finished this, and I haven’t felt such a strong urge to rewatch something immediately in ages! I’m simply thankful that Lu Yuxiao and Hou Minghao accepted this project because their visuals and chemistry are chef’s kiss! 👏
I entered this realm with zero expectations but came out completely enchanted. I’m now emotionally attached to the MingZai couple—it’s honestly going to be hard to move on! 🥺
🌟 What I Loved (Pluses)
(+) The visuals are insane. Neither overshadows the other—both LYX and HMH totally slay their looks. From the intricate hairstyles and soft yet alluring makeup to the beautifully designed costumes, everything screams perfection. I also appreciate how newer Xianxia dramas have evolved: gone are the stiff wigs and plastic accessories. This is elegance done right. ✨
(+) The chemistry is top-tier. From their very first interaction, their connection feels natural and magnetic. The love scenes are hot, romantic, and beautifully shot. It even gives short-drama vibes with how intense and passionate their kisses are! 🔥
(+) The color grading, set design, and CGI are breathtaking. Every frame feels painterly, every landscape a work of art. The use of light, color, and movement makes the entire show a visual feast. I found myself pausing just to admire the details! 🎨
(+) The story handles misunderstandings maturely. Miscommunication is kept minimal (thank heavens 🙏). Even when misunderstandings happen, the characters handle them really well—especially Ji Bozai. They’re so mature, and toward the end of the drama, they communicate beautifully, which I absolutely love! Despite how many times Ming Yi lied to him, he still cares for and loves her deeply, doing anything to keep her safe. I love how both main characters are always ready to sacrifice themselves for each other.
(+) Both characters are equally powerful. This is rare in romance-centered fantasy dramas! I love how both MY and JBZ stand on equal ground—strength-wise and emotionally. They complement rather than overshadow each other. 💪
(+) No unnecessary deaths. None of the characters actually die—except those who truly deserve it. And thank goodness they didn’t kill off the companion beast! 🐉 A small but meaningful win in the Xianxia world where tragedy is often overused.
(+) Every side character matters. Even though I wasn’t too invested in Tianji and Yan Xiao, I love that each side couple gets closure. Every character, good or bad, plays a meaningful role in the narrative. No one feels wasted or purposeless—a rare feat! 🌱
⚡ What Could Be Better (Minuses)
(-) The directing of fight scenes feels weak. While the love scenes are beautifully executed, the fight sequences often fall flat. Some are too short, too stiff, or end abruptly—leaving me thinking, “Wait, that’s it?” The choreography deserved more fluidity and intensity.
(-) The music in the final episode is... rough. The soundtrack overlaps awkwardly, killing the emotional tone of several scenes. The moment when JBZ talks to Bo Yulan’s portrait should’ve been moving, but instead it feels jarringly comedic due to mismatched background music. 🎵
(-) Ming Yi’s power deserved more spotlight. She has amazing moments—especially in emergencies—but I wish the finale showcased her full potential. The first episode doesn’t count since she was weakened by Heavenly Grief. Toward the end, she becomes slightly sidelined, which underplays her incredible strength and character.
💭 Final Thoughts
Overall, this drama is a visual masterpiece with incredible chemistry and high rewatch value. You just can’t get enough of JBZ and MY together. 💕
If you’re looking for a Xianxia drama with strong romance, emotional depth, and stunning visuals, this is the one. It’s going straight to my favorites list.
🌌 Fairy Ming Yi is just sooooo beautiful—it’s such a shame we don’t get to see that divine styling again until the very end.
I want to praise Er-qi's actor. His subtle mouth twitching is everything! Whenever he cries I felt like crying too and I even thought at some scenes he act better than Lu Yuxiao. He's soooooo adorable in the way he constantly worries over Ming Yi and keep watching over her feelings. He's literally always there for her! If either companion beast dies, I would tantrum, literally.
I want to watch Youku's express package using my laptop, but I've never managed to do that as the web always required me to watch from mobile app even though I log into my account using my laptop. Does anyone know how I can watch the express episodes I purchased from laptop?
I really miss and mourn Ming-Yi' s fairy era clothes and hairstyles :" she used to look so beautiful, charming, and alluring :( right now she's still pretty but I really miss her old style huhu
Tbh, the plot is a bit too light for such magnificently-styled drama. I love the colors, the lightings, the wind effects, the sfx, the emotional acting, the top-notch chemistry, everything! However, I do think it lacks in the plotting and storyline department, ending it with numerous questions left to the broad imagination of its audience.
I think they put more focus on the emotion and chemistry and think they would compensate the lazy plotline. It does, however, compensate it a bit, but only because I chose to turn off my brain with its incoherent and choppy plots. But XK and TXW is just soooooo cute together this drama is still a very nice watch for me. I love the costumes, makeup, the sets, the world-building! It's sooooo visually aesthetic and pleasing, with vibrant colors and intricate Tang Dynasty makeup, hairdo, and hanfu!
I feel TXW's beauty is maximized here and she serves in every way possible. The ending scene with XK is extremely heartbreaking, though the music truly disturb my crying experience because I unfortunately have watched the behind the scenes of TXW's crying and it was so heartbreaking! I can't really heard it with her shouting being slowed down and with music all over, if it was silent and we can only heard her crying it'd probably produce more tears for me.
Nevertheless, I love this drama! Such a nice drama!
Are you looking for answers from the novel?1. There was no concept of half demon, or full ones being eternal,…
Yes, I think it is relevant, at least for me, because I'd like to know how the world in this drama works. But even if they don't explain it until it ends, it won't reduce my enjoyment for this drama, but it'd certainly bugs me.
