Relevant Social Commentary Decent Romance

What Worked:

Compelling Premise: I wonder how this story would have played out if the dynamic had been flipped—with two female leads competing for a male lead instead.

Terrific Pacing: Keeping the audience in suspense about the outcome until the final episode was masterful.

Timeless Themes: Though the series is over a decade old, it holds up remarkably well. Its themes feel especially relevant today as marriage rates decline in Japan and globally due to rising living costs and career pressure.

What Didn't:

Distracting Side Characters: I found myself regularly muting the exaggerated, overly loud side characters. Whether intended for comedic relief or narration, they distracted from the main plot. It may be a standard J-drama trope, but it pulled me out of the story.

Unconvincing Resolution: Forgiving the father felt unrealistic and disappointing.
