I was strangely unmoved by this and indeed found the ML irritating. I gave up a third of the way through and FF'd…
That's a shame since it's a darling movie with a great friendship theme. You missed a lot of the really good character development by quitting when you did.
Great article. Love the nod to Kame since he is undeniably amazing. Also love how you mentioned the rating system. The J-dramas are rated infinitely lower that K-dramas so I rarely pay any attention at all to the ratings and just enjoy the movie or show.
I'm also going to add something else regarding Korean men being better looking than Japanese men.
I had a quirky conversation with a male neighbor who is not Asian but considers Japanese men to be the most masculine of the Asian countries. Maybe that's the difference. Korean men look far too pretty for my taste. It freaks me out., especially when I suspect a lot of it is the result of plastic surgery and that just gives me the heebies.
At least when I look at Yamashita Tomohisa, I can compare photos of him from when he's a kid and pictures now and he hasn't significantly changed. Yes, he's aging, but that's normal. It's not like he became a different person through plastic surgery to make him pretty.
I'm afraid that I just find the Korean drama fanbase to be overly harsh and biased against Japanese dramas which makes me want to watch the Korean dramas even less than I would normally. I get stubborn and dig in my heels when I feel like the entire Japanese culture is being dissed because their pop stars act and their men aren't "good looking" enough, whatever the hell that means. Whoever is thinking that clearly hasn't met Kento Yamazaki or Ryusei Yokohama.
Anyway, my biggest hope is that someday Japan will be more open to exporting its content. I dream of seeing my favorite Japanese dramas in HD, it just hasn't happened yet.
Mmm, a perfect drama if you're feeling depressed and potentially suicidal. Wow, these poor kids, so messed up. The music teacher should be horsewhipped. She's either a sociopath or a psychopath, not sure which. And I'm only 4 episodes in.
I mean, i know everything about these types of shows are ridiculous and should not be taken too seriously, but…
It's actually not illegal in Japan because it was made through a marriage match and her parents approve. There's obviously things they shouldn't be doing, but they address that in the manga too. So, technically, this is perfectly legal because her parents have given consent. :)
Huh, my friend watches the American version of this with Freddie Highmore. Her son has autism so her family can really relate. I had no idea it was also a Japanese drama and it seems originally a Korean drama. Neat.
No, it's not as bad as the rating implies. It just is what it is, short vignettes into these women's love lives, and an entertaining performance by Yahagi Honoka. Japanese dramas get a bum rap most of the time anyway, so that's probably the reason for the lower rating.
Episodes 1-5 are currently subbed on Viki and episode 6 is mostly subbed, probably finished by 7/28. The subbing quality is very good and of course, the HD quality watching it through Viki is great too.
It's extremely sweet and at least gives a better ending to the drama series. BUT, how is it that the one kiss we get in the special is such a boring one? Yamapi can kiss. so it frustrates me when his female costars don't kiss back. WHY!?
I just read something about how this show became insanely popular in Japan. While visiting the country, was it…
I'm watching the Japanese Proposal Daisakusen from 2007 and episode 7 has tons of references to Winter Sonata. So yep, apparently they loved it and even called one of the main leads Yon-sama as an endearment. So funny.
Ahh it doesn't have sexual content? I'm disappointed LMAO XD
Now, I didn't say that. Just no actual nudity which I personally think would have cheapened it. It's a fun, silly little sensual drama that does have lots of non-explicit sex. :)
I think it's because I'm new to the community, but I don't actually know what "cringey" means in conjunction with…
Hmm, so something with more stereotypes and tropes would potentially be cringey to certain viewers, then? That makes sense. I found the 1st season of Itazura na Kiss then to be pretty cringey, but didn't have a word to go with the feeling. Thanks so much for helping me define it! I appreciate your help! :)
So cringey! Can't bear to watch but kinda curious how they end up. So skipped most parts and finally jumped to…
I think it's because I'm new to the community, but I don't actually know what "cringey" means in conjunction with a drama? How do viewers define something as cringey or not? I'm honestly curious because I've never really run across the term anywhere else except watching Asian dramas.
