Things keep getting interesting after ep 9. I really liked today's ep so much. I love love how the dramatic the kidnapping scene was and OH MY GOD Hua yong was looking extra fine in that scene today. That little smirk he gave while spreading his pheromones. just WOW. Kept me smiling the whole time. It was well executed to say the least. Same goes for the half NC. One thing that kept me off is just I wanted to look at Hua Yong's sharp teeth (wolf like) and the mark on Shaoyu's neck. In novel there was supposed to be a Pink Orchid appear on SSY's neck idk if they will show it but I am gonna stay tuned hehe.

I am actually quite upset on how the last scene is portrayed by few users in social medias. The posts said that XSH took poison to take revenge on behalf of his brother's death. To make DZA experience the pain of how it feels when your beloved dies before your eyes. But i think people are seriously misunderstanding the whole context.
XSH if he wanted revenge he could have done it the moment he saw his brother died but he let DZA go. Because he loved him but he hated the fact that he deceived the trust XSH gave to DZA. He knew his brother was no virtue and eventually if he joined the imperial court it would lead to cause rivalry among the brothers. He was prepared to die always because he never wanted to rule the Dynasty. All he wanted was serenity and peace in a remote location. But his fate was unfortunate.
XSH was never good in studies and had little to no knowledge about the kingdom which The crown prince had. After XSQ died he came to the realisation that he had to take care of the whole kingdom. But you need to have guidance for that which Prime Minister Gu didn't give him. Why? Money. Ministers wanted money for themselves and not for the peasants because they are probably low lifers for them. After the Massacre South Hui was succumbed with drought, the imperial court never bat an eye, all the citizen thought that the emperor was unworthy and this Rebels were formed in XSH's own native land which is why DZA had to become the emperor of North Ji because only if he become the emperor he could possess the power to make everything better. But it costed him his life and morality. Driven by obsession to have his lover by his side he overturned the whole kingdom. He was righteous to a certain point that he spared the lives of the people of South Hui.
But his long driven obsession hit a point when he noticed that XSH is not like before. XSH is ready to die anytime. As y'all saw he wanted to kill himself because he thought it was better to die than to surrender to his enemies. Which is why DZA thought that he hated him although DZA loved XSH much much more than before. XSH didn't hate DZA but he regretted the fact the he was naive and got easily deceived. you can clearly see he mentions it. Now he was willing to fight till he got to know that DZA is sick. He was given poison because he was not loyal to Red Shadow Guard and because his love for XSH was greater than his own life. XSH knew that he had no chance of survival now because for everyone in North Ji kingdom, XSH was a fallen emperor, the brother of the killer of the previous crown prince. They would never accept him, a captive of the enemy kingdom. But what about his own kingdom? Well few were loyal but how many? many of them knew the fact that the king is nothing but weak and irresponsible. They would cut his throat as soon as he would step into his own kingdom which was now in ashes. The last conversation between DZA and XSH was enough to make us realise all these.
But he knew death wasn't easy. If he wanted to die DZA, Shen Song, DY would never let him. That's why he ordered SS to bring Death Feigning Drug but he replaced it with real poison. That was his salvation to the countless wrong decision he took, his greed for freedom and love, Death. He lost everything but DZA who has few days to live. So he knew that this pain would be too hard for him to bear. I read this line somewhere here or in insta/yt that XSH tells SS that he can say that XSH is despicable for abandoning his duties and morals but he truly loved DZA. So a life without people you love is equal to living in hell. That's why he chose poison over life. A peaceful destiny where they could be ever after, eternally.

i agree ππ only if they could get some more funds the court politics part would be elaborated. it was rushed in only 6-7 eps. especially i would love to see the Prime Minister having more screentime because he was a cunning man. He wanted power for himself. Crown Prince was always suspicious of him that's why he deliberately misleaded him leading to his demise yet we never got to see what happened to the court ministers after XSQ died

XSH didn't take the poison because of love. Idk whats the tradition of where you live but in Asia (where I live) when a kingdom goes down a king is supposed to go down with it. XSH had no other option but to take the poison. He had nothing left. His brother was killed by his lover who later conquered the whole South just because of his obsession. What's wrong with dying with dignity? DZA didn't have much time left. do you think he would survive on his own? There were people of his own kingdom who wanted to kill him because he was not affiliated with state affairs making the situation worse. Only because of DZA he was alive. He never wanted the crown. It was fate. I wouldn't call him weak. Rather he was greedy to have freedom which over turned his destiny. Plus he said he never wanted to die before ZA. and he knew that only through death he can finally get the peace he wanted all his life.
You also have to understand the perspective of the crown prince. He was the oldest, XSQ (Xiao Su Qian) had the right to sit on the throne. but the court did not like him because he was hard to manipulate which is why Prime Minister wanted to put XSH in the court. The king favored XSH and called crown prince weak on the top the Prime Minister made it look like XSQ killed the Duan Family. It's all court politics. When you come to power, anything that threatens your position become a danger including XSH and the emperor. XSQ loved XSH as long as he was not a threat but he thought if he tortured XSH may be he would retreat. May be he would understand that XSQ doesn't want XSH in imperial court. but unfortunately it backfired. why I am telling you abt this because even though he was wrong, he was righteous as a brother/master. He killed the man who tortured his brother and led troops to find the rare herb for the servant. He was not bad but he was blinded by greedy and power. He was waiting because he adored his little brother. He never wanted to kill him but he was very much manipulated by the Ministers. It's a prime example of how imperial poltics worked behind the scenes.
