That's why seok ru and seung hyo love story doesn't work. I guess they overdid seok ru and hyeon jun relationship part that took steam out of lead couple.

Even after 24 episodes, the plot still feels unfocused and underdeveloped. The drama worked best when it centered on Chen Yi and Miao Jing and their relationship. Once new characters like Cen Ye and Zhang Bin were introduced, the story became stuck in repetitive tropes such as unbearable ex-boyfriend, possessive male lead, don't have words to say about female lead, endless audits that seem to lead nowhere, and a villain who barely feels like a real threat. What was once an engaging and emotionally driven story has become cluttered with unnecessary subplots, making it difficult to stay invested in the main narrative.
Miao Jing said Being here I am causing you more pain. Girl you are just hanging around you ex knowing fully well that pains Chen yi. Going to live with ex will definitely make Chen yi happy. This girl wants Chen yi to do everything for their relationship. Did she ask herself what has she done herself? Rather than blaming him. Did she do anything to gain his confidence? For starters You can't even keep distance from your ex.

They toned down both characters compared to the novel. In the novel, Chen Yi and Tu Li were actually a couple, and Miao Jing even had a boyfriend, Zhengsi, whom she dated partly to get back at Chen Yi. The drama removed or softened these details, making the characters appear much more polished and less flawed than their original versions.

I honestly don't mind flawed characters, whether they're male or female leads. Considering everything they've been through in their lives, they don't need to be perfect to be compelling. That's why I find the novel version more relatable and realistic. However, drama audiences often have different expectations, so adaptations tend to portray the main leads, especially the male lead, as more idealized and perfect.
The issue is not that Miao Jing had ex-boyfriends. The issue is the double standard. I have noticed this pattern in many C-dramas and K-dramas. The male lead is often portrayed as a loyal, one-woman man who has never truly loved anyone else, while the female lead is frequently written with multiple past relationships. This creates an imbalance in how the two characters are presented and judged. If loyalty and romantic history matter in the story, the same standards should apply to both leads.
I think Ji hyun is still stuck in her past relationship. Until she realises Si U is different from Ga eul. She will keep feeling insecure and Si U can't do anything about it.
It doesn't make any sense. He was just 100 meter away from her still lost her. I bet he will meet his daughter in last episode. They'll just keep pushing that till last episode.
