Bruhhh xiao jinyu is so smitten based on all these clips so far 😩🤣 i'm kinda glad we only have 28 eps cause i dunno if my weak heart can take so much romance 😆 (though if we don't see a ChuYu baby at the end imma riot!!!)
I'm on ep 13 so far, watching with my dad who was hesitant at the start cause of the fantasy elements (which he usually doesn't like in cdramas), and this had a really rocky, almost parody-like start and only got better by ep 7. I was especially not a fan of Yan Zhi Gang's portrayal of Su Wuming, but I'm sort of okay with it now. I think it's because he's smart but not charismatic, and he's trying to be charismatic. I do like that there's a visible age gap between him and Lu Lingfeng.
I am not "hooked" by the cases but will definitely be continuing
It took me forever to finish Ep 1 last year so I don’t know if I should continue this (esp since I found out there’s a love triangle?? Which I hate) but I don’t know any other popular cdrama with as much world building as this one and solid action scenes too. Convince me to watch this? Or give other fantasy suggestions.
This drama succeeded in two things I have faulted cdramas for failing to do in general: 1) excellent worldbuilding (especially one that’s not even a fantasy drama) and 2) making me cry.
I haven’t read the source novel (which I can only imagine is brilliant) but the attention to detail is very obvious in the drama adaptation. The story is compact, though not perfect, but it was well-supported by the smaller details.
As for the making me cry part, maybe it’s cause it’s that time of the month for me (lol) or because family themes hit closest to home (no pun intended) but I felt moved by some performances, particularly Sun Bo and Chun Xi’s storyline, as well as the Zhao Mo/Zhao Ban/Wen Yue issue.
It is a figurative title. Like they were putting the tax issue under the microscope
Obviously it's figurative, I just think given the timeframe, they could've used a better metaphor since I don't think microscopes existed during that period. Magnifying glass, abacus, whatever other choices
To my fellow Fu Sheng/Wen Jue shippers, how we feelin'? 😆
For me, even if the romance was one-sided on Wen Jue's part, it was still cute and wholesome. It's just interesting how Fu Sheng never knew that Wen Jue liked him, and I think that adds to the uniqueness of this drama. But I don't know why the scriptwriter wanted it to be that way 😅
Purchased express for episodes 29-30 today after waiting it out after ep 27 dropped yesterday and I’ve now finished an airing show for the first time! Leaving a review in a bit ☺️
My dad is watching this and he seems to like it as he's already on episode 27. I glance at the TV every now and then cause Ren Jialun looks great sitting on a throne in his big furry black coat 😂
I'm a sucker for the arranged marriage trope and I've been interested in a young emperor/empress pairing so I might watch this but the plot looks kinda thin?
There is a reason I can't even be mad about ep 2️⃣5️⃣
I can't even be mad at Sun Siming for killing everyone in Hearsay Capturing Pavilion. What I don't find believable is how Feng Qianli needed to put a list on his body lol like it's too dumb and serves no purpose to have a list in the first place, let alone conveniently on a person's body. It's like the scriptwriter just wanted to make sure there's gonna be an angsty massacre scene and this is the best way they came up with and called it a day.
In Youthful Glory, someone put a list of criminals on their body cause they needed to preserve evidence. This is like the opposite scenario. Exposing people's identities this way is just dumb and only for shock factor.
Anyways, 5 eps to go! Let's see if shit hits the fan and this loses all the good comedy it's built up.
we'll see the context of that clip soon enough ☺️

Kudos to the whole cast and production team!
BUT ALSO WHAT A RIDE 🤣
