I've seen Yuan Bingyuan (FL's actress) in My Sassy Princess so I gave this one a shot. I loved her innocent portrayal of Xuanji. Enjoyed her chemistry with the ML too and would've wanted more 'peacefully happy scenes' between them than the angst we got in the second half but what can we do about it since this is a xianxia 🤣
What also stood out to me is Linglong's actress' portrayal of a victim of kidnapping/SA. Felt really bad for her.
As frustrating as the villains were, the dad was surprisingly frustrating to me cause of how useless he was despite having such a 'regal' and fatherly aura 😅 then again all the older sect leaders/elders were useless in this 🤣🤣
Cover poster is really gorgeous. Didn't care about the wings much until I knew why they were there. 😂
Okay. What's that enunch' obsession with moustache and dressing up? He is always putting some fake beard on or…
From what I understood, since he's a palace eunuch, he was castrated before puberty. Puberty is responsible for facial hair. So his obsession for facial hair shows his desire to be more than a eunuch, or a general longing for the manliness he never developed. I thought it was a clever quirk that made his character more memorable haha.
The trailer looks pretty good. I'm trying to keep my expectations low though cause I really loved the couple's progression in Melody of Golden Age (esp that confession scene!!) and I don't know if this will be just as good.
no none! everyone is very loyal to eachother in a very romantic yearning kind of way! there is an annoying antagonist…
Just started this last night and I'm already on ep 33 lol (watching on average ×2 speed cause im too impatient) rahhhh xuan ji and si feng are so cute 🥹
This was good in terms of the background story being central to the plot (with some minor plotholes/forced plot twists at the end). I'm not usually a fan of flashbacks being overused but here, the pacing was meant to involve the past timeline as much as the present timeline (with the past timeline being more important lol).
I also think that Qu Sangeng, as the supposed ML, was way outshone by young Lu Zhi and Song Chen, and I'm not sure you want your main characters outshone or becoming less relevant (unless that's what you were going for?).
For Chi Historical dramas, try New Life Begins. I think it was one of the 1st historical dramas I’ve watched…
I've seen Wrong Carriage Right Groom, it was cute. Not that interested in the plot of New Life Begins. Haven't seen the modern dramas you mentioned since I'm not really a fan of modern dramas but I might watch Never-Ending Summer when it airs.
It does match with the novel name more closely. But generation to generation makes sense since the story is focused…
Thanks for the spoiler-less explanation! I preferred A Decade of Nightscape Lights cause it sounded more unique but Generation to Generation does roll off the tongue better and is not unrelated to the story anyways
I honestly didn't think I expected much (just looking for a fantasy cdrama to pass the time) but 13 episodes in, I don't know if I want to continue…
Pros: - Effects - Some cinematography - Casting - The cute end credits (lol)
Cons: - Mostly the script/plot direction: --The comedy is really jarring a lot of times --The pacing/continuity feels off, there's been flashbacks every 20 minutes every episode, so this is not something binge-able unless you want to watch a rinse-repeat sob story feat. diff. characters every few episodes
I didn't understand why it was taking me a while to get into this until I saw a comment on iQIYI saying "there's too many filler arcs" and I was like, 'That's it!'
In other words, it feels like an episodic type of shounen anime which I've outgrown.
Does this have a love triangle / harem or annoyingly persistent side charas chasing after either lead? Tags say none but I gotta be safe
I've been meaning to add another xianxia to my watchlist since I've put Love & Destiny on hold cause I was approaching the mortal arc which not only spanned like 10-20 episodes but also had a love triangle which I don't have the patience for 🫠
A little too predictable for me to find it mind-blowing, but a solid, no-nonsense story nonetheless.
I don’t usually want to watch dramas that will make my blood pressure rise (whether due to the setbacks or injustice experienced by the characters at the hands of the villains or just their general stupidity causing their own grief). Still, this is only 14 episodes and watching a drama with this subject matter will never feel pointless.
by the way this should not have been titled Under the Microscope cause like… was the microscope in the room with us? nope
This was okay. Binged it at ×1.25-2 speed to finish quickly.
This kinda failed to resonate with me both at an emotional level and creative level. I did like the scenes where business was the focus, and I also liked how they utilised waterways here. But on an emotional level, I think they could've explored San Niang's grief a bit more (they were able to do that with Pan'er as FL and Yinzhang). I also think the Empress could've had more involvement 'cause her image was supposedly an important factor in the palace politics. Yet she just felt like an enigma.
If you want female empowerment which does not degrade/villainise/ridicule men, this might not be it lol. Cause men's flaws are in full display here (yes, even the ML has his noble idiocy/cowardice moments), whether as evil/ scheming, unfaithful, immature, or just plain uncool, to the point that you'd wonder if there was a satirical undertone where the only conclusion is that maybe the world's best men are either those who grew up surrounded by women (Chen Lian) or the teahouse fanboys composed of old scholarly men. 😆
This was a good watch!!! I liked the acting of the cast, particularly the leads and the villains. Good pacing, too, and not too drawn out nor did the angsty parts overstay their welcome as comedy was still there from start to end.
I don't usually like transmigration/isekai/modern dramas but I wanted to watch this for the music aspect, which wasn't actually the highlight lol. Still a good watch!
p.s. shout out to fight club for finding its way here XD
Came here cause of Bao Shangen from Youthful Glory. I really hope this'll be as good as it seems so far! (genres seem totally up my alley and I get the trailer hype).
I'm not planning on watching but I have to say the poster is truly eye-catching and pretty
the poster was what eventually made me watch this polarising drama 😆 it seems simple like most costume cdrama posters but the colour blending between the dark blue sky, the red wedding outfits, and the yellow lantern is pretty distinct
ah, that lantern in the middle is more meaningful than you'd expect, too 😁

Binge-worthy but not rewatchable for me.
decade means 10 years. generation is less specific. but it was the nightscape lights i found unique.
Happy watching!

also just discovered xu yiyang (as ztao's wife) and saw that she's in this too!!
will this see the light of
I just hope there's no lousy love triangle 👊
