i absolutely loved the scene in episode 4 of Jom reading to Yai and then getting annoyed at what was happening in the book -- we got to see so much of both of their personalities.
finished it! with a ton of skipping. i knew it would be a wild ride from the start since it was already starting with one of the leads in a relationship and the other as a single parent, but, as we all know, any remaining quality this drama had immediately went downhill pretty much as soon as we hit the 70's.
longform dramas tend to take a while for the leads to get together but here it was just.... draggy and then the slow-burn didn't even end up being worth it since the writers gave Kang San and Mi Rae one date and called that quits. it's quite sad that this drama is what is being produced these days. the thing is, longform dramas CAN be good. KBS's 2020 drama "Once Again," is a great example, or even SBS's 2005 "Dear Heaven," both are dramas that have a long episode count but the writers at least cared about what was going into each episode and didn't just give up halfway through.
it felt like the writers didn't plan out properly how to fill up all the episodes, like why not make sun ju return way sooner to avoid such a rushed ending and a bunch of plot holes? oh well.
i loved being able to come to the comment section here weekly and see everyone's opinions. despite how i ranted about how the quality of longform kdrama's have gone down, i will still give "unpredictable family," a try, haha.
(also the fact that we didn't even have ONE kiss scene of the leads.. and 2nd ml's AUNT is the one with the pregnancy at the end. dang lol)
finished it! well, overall, it was alright. i did enjoy the first 11 episodes or so and binged them pretty fast, but it slowed down to me around 12 and events started repeating themselves like crazy.
still, i found there were a lot of funny scenes at the start and the leads dynamic was very fun when they actually disliked each other, lol. also, this drama definitely had one of the best father-in-laws, he was funny with great comedic timing but also supported his daughter-in-law and son and always rooted for them which was cute.
FL’s so called ‘friend’ telling her that she’s responsible for 2nd ml’s stalking and obsession… erm……
its such a personal pet peeve of mine when the writers to try FORCE you to feel bad for a character that has done nothing but cause harm the entire series, and gets a random redemption moment at the very end of the show. like what was the point of all of that then
Firstly, the only positive things I found about this drama was that the leads were both very pretty and I liked their dynamic at the start, even though it was nothing new I still found them cute, and this was the part where I found their chemistry to be the best as well. (The first portion.) Now onto the negative stuff.
ML had zero character development or backbone. they didn’t even give FL any standout characteristics.
it honestly just felt like they were trying to check a bunch of ‘boxes’ for required tropes in Xianxia.
Also they wasted so much time on the ending with what was basically just a OST mv. LAZY! 😅
I've not seen it in a Korean drama, but it happened three times in this Turkish drama I watch called Elif
no worries! i figured it might be something like that :) honestly that’s probably what this show should do too with the new actor they brought on. but i don’t think they can due to the plot

yeah, happened with another turkish drama called “Emanet” i’m not actually sure if they replaced the FL fully or just created a new character since she left. i think they also tried to press charges against her for leaving before they finished filming the season finale (against the original female lead i mean)
three times is wild though. did they ever try to explain why her face kept changing or just ignored it? 😅

-_-
sheesh i hate how kdrama characters are always giving 2nd leads the benefit of the doubt for nooo reason at all.

properly as a trope more often!! it’s so good when done well
