In the novel, recruits didnt see Xiao Jue as much as they see him in the drama. That is why He Yan had fun with Xiao Jue in the novel because he didnt know she knows his identity. But considering they had to make changes and the novel is long, this is also okay i guess.

I'm currently at ep 20 and I have a problem with heroification of FL. I love the characters, I love the drama, pacing and each case but in opera case, I kinda had enough with the "would I do the same?" "no, you wouldn't do anything evil. you just want justice" dialogue. FL has her merits and talents that she can show and stand on her own foot. She has backing of Grand Princess and Yan Chi. She knows women have hard times standing alone and they are not taken seriously. Officials didnt give her a face and didnt believe what she can do before Yan Chi takes a step. Also we saw how officials do their job before ML and FL show up. I know it's not right to make your own justice but judging someone and telling them they should've gone to the officials and choose different path when they are in jail is kinda off for me. English is not my first language so idk if i explained myself well but that's all...
