Under the Power Review

This is one of the best drama to start off the year with. If you’ve seen me in the comment, you would’ve known that I actually started drama because of Tan Songyun. Please do not be mislead by the synopsis or the summary of this drama, and give it a try. You’ll be surprise how amazing it is.

Short character detail:

Lu Yi – 22 years old cold, rude and obnoxious. He takes his work seriously, and abide by the rules. When he interrogates people he does not hesitate to use any type of force. At home, he rather loves music and spend most of his time reading. He is actually rather warm compared to what others view him as.

Jinxia – Obsessed with food and making money, and she is very calculated when it comes to earning and receiving money or bonus. She is good at fighting, and even though she has a buddy next to her, he always let her do the fighting and the interrogation. She is goofy around her close friends, mother and master but take her work seriously when she steps in the field.

Storyline Review:

This drama combined two things I love the most, historical and crime, plus a bonus romance. Even though, Lu Yi holds the higher position compared to Jinxia, and I like the fact that sometimes, Jinxia works faster than he does and solve things faster in certain case. She also has the ability to examine dead bodies and clues. Another good point is Lu Yi doesn’t abuse his authority power to make her struggle, although he talks rough to her, he always discusses to her about the cases and seeks her opinion toward them, this take away the cliché of the “liking the guy who ignored you” kind of thing. The story does not revolves just around them, there are doctors, gang members, and etc. I like that this drama does not have too much political issues, or forced marriage (just because they work for the emperor) which makes things even better, because I really hate those types of ideas.

The costumes in this drama seems very simple, but yet they are very beautiful. I mean the Lu Yi have most of the beautiful clothing, and I understand it because he has the high position plus money. Jinxia supposed to be poor so most of her clothing looks very similar, but there are times where they give her very beautiful and elegant dresses that was breathtaking.

The Romance:

The relationship between these two developed really well, and I like the fact that their relationship did not take 40 episodes to realized their feelings. There were small little things and detail from each episode that add up to their relationship, so it does not take long for the romance (no worries there). I like the innocent, naïve and sweet moments that they developed for and each other’s in this drama.

So What?
Overall, I highly recommended this drama to anyone who is interested in historical, crime and humor drama. The scenes, scripted and the novel was so well written, I honestly haven’t shed a tear for a drama in a long time, and they were able to make me cry, laughed and feel all squishy squishy. I like that they did not developed the lead female to be weak, and useless but instead they made a powerful young girl, who saves a lot of people. Each character was very well developed, and Han Dong played such a great role as a villain, and if you hate him, that mean he did a really job on his part. Even minor role as a bodyguard is essential to the story.
I really do hope these actors have a chance to maybe be paired up with each other in the future project. To me, from the OST, story, characters and actors this drama is definitely my favourite drama for the starting of 2020.

I really liked the story at the beginning, showing the determination that the two leads would do anything for each other, but then I kind of drop the drama because the same things kept repeating again again and again? it kind of tiring

This drama started out to be very annoying, boring and confused because of it's political issues, connections and the amount of unnecessary character you have to remember but later become irrelevant to the story. This could be one of the many reasons many of you had dropped this drama, BUT, this drama turns out to be really great.

First, the costumes in this drama are amazing. Usually, there is more historical period drama compared to this time period type of drama, therefore the costumes presented in here are relatively simple, but they are very beautiful and elegant. It straight out defines the status of a person depends on each character are dressed.

Second, I've read most comments and a lot of people are saying the female lead, Sun Yi was annoying. At first, I agreed with this statement, because the male lead Lian Kai had loved her for a long time, and he's been patiently waiting for her to reply back to his love but she just seems arrogantly ignored him because of her ex-boyfriend. Then her side of the story was told, and I came to understand her character a little better. She was practically being pushed into an unwanted marriage for her parent benefit, and toward the man that is known as a playboy, therefore she just sees herself as a tool for other's happiness, but she doesn't know that Lian Kai was already in love with her.

Lastly, I just want to say there will be dramas that will be in a tragedy like this one and that will be completely normal because not every ending has to be happy, plus this author is known for her heartbreaking novel, but still being able to captivate the audience's attention. I hope you guys would give this drama a chance, putting the expectation that you had on other drama and put it on here, watch it with a refreshing mindset, skip the political issues if you want to, but honestly the developmental of the character and the progress of their love is truly beautiful.

Since this drama is still going on, I decided to just make a short review. I am a sucker for dramas that are mainly about the women defending and build themselves up stronger and doesn't need to be depending on men to survive. This drama is a great example of what I was talking about. The lead actress has shown varieties of different emotions to the audience like me, she makes sometimes dislike her character for the path that she's chosen, but there was also a time when she makes her decision understandable and i would 'ah, i see why you did that'. This is a great drama if you're into the warrior, war, slow-romance, kinda drama. I would definitely re-watch this in the future.

If you watched the first one, this one would not be considered as an 'eye-catching' storyline, since it kind of repeated. She goes to a tournament, gives up, gets motivated, then gets back up. that's all, plus i like the old main more.

Definitely a great drama, great storyline, great characters. Even tho it has a lot of episodes, but each episode is only like 40mins long, so it doesn't really feel that tiring. Love the revenge, hate, love, and connection in this drama.

I highly recommend this drama to anyone who wants to try something different, maybe a bit more relatable. Compared to other youth dramas, it is not very cliché, yet sometimes I FEEL as if it was based on a true event. It talked about relationships, life, and the success of each individual.

Yu Huai was the top of his class science class, he always knew what he wanted in life. He's literally like the typical smart guy you see in almost all asian drama. Yet, he turns out to be the opposite of how people viewed him, which makes the story surprising good because of the unpredictable outcome. He suddenly went missing from everyone one day, and people blamed him for that. In a way, I understand his purpose of doing so, being someone who was top of his class, smart and the cool guy everyone loves, suddenly become a failure in life, it hit pretty hard for a person at a young age.

Geng Geng is your typical cheerful, hardworking, but a little clumsy type of girl. She might not be smart, but she holds justice. She stands up for her friends and family. In the beginning, she might have portrayed to be an annoying girl for disagreeing with her dad's option to remarried someone, and always stick to her mom's side (even though she was the one turn the relationship bad). Later on, the drama did really well developing Geng Geng's attitude, her mindset and makes me realized, yeah I guess at that age anyone would be annoyed to have a new family member (because who doesn't always hope for a reunion), therefore I become more understanding of her character.

Lu Xing He is a good friend to Geng Geng, he's the second lead that everyone would develop a second syndrome for. For me, I did not, because the relationship between Geng Geng and Yu Huai was at the stage for I would not want anyone else to interfere. He might have loved her for a long, waited for a long time, stick by her through high school and after, but I rather she not return those feeling if she does not truly feel them, or it would've hurt Lu Xing He even worst.

Overall, highly recommended drama, life, relationship and youth moments, this drama has it all for you. The actors and actresses did a really good job portraying each of the characters. You will not regret spending time with this drama, I kinda did hope they made the ending a bit longer because it felt a little rush, but either way. ENJOY!

This was a rather nice and refreshing movie to watch. The cast was great and the storyline was good. In my opinion, since it was a movie so like 1h:56, even though the time seems long, but the story was very rush. For example, the interaction between the main girl and the second lead was very short, like its shown that they spent a lot of time together, but it felt as if they only spend 10 minutes together. The main guy looks quite young, his personality was also demonstrated as very childish, so compare the main girl she shown as to be much more mature, so therefore I didn't quite felt the chemistry between them at all. I was happy they made it into live action, but for me to rewatch a movie that is rather rush, no backstory and a non-passionate relationship between the lead, it is quite hard.

This was a great drama, at first 60 episodes do scares me, because I know dramas with that many episodes will only drag the storyline longer and I was not wrong. Thes problem in this story is that the main girl frustrates me so much that there was a time I wanted the lead guy to just give up on her and go find someone else, but after all those screaming and yelling, and give it my patience and I finished it. The actors are very good at carrying out their role, especially the evil characters, they came out stronger than the lead which makes it very interesting. Totally recommend for those who enjoy, family dramas, love, hate relationship and dream comes true kind of genre.

I am a huge fan of the series Dr. Qin, I personally loved the first and second one the most. This season was downhill for me. Although they don't reuse the same actors, at least the first and second ones, the assistant name was changed, making her a brand new character so I did not mind. This season, the assistant really rely on Dr. Qin, it's as if she doesn't have any forensic knowledge or anything, but it doesn't make sense if they continued it from season 2, using the same character, but in season 2 she already had good knowledge in forensic and work together with Dr. Qin rather just assist him.

Another thing is this season they stirred up too many conflicts between Dr. Qin & Lin Tao that it became annoying over time. I realized the character, Lin Tao, in this season isn't as quick and smart as the previous two seasons, it seems as if they want to make him the 'comedy' of this drama, so everything he said most of the time doesn't get taken seriously. Aside from this, Lin Tao literally being looked down on by Chen ShiYi when the other two seasons, literally respect for him and work, so I wasn't sure what they're trying to do here.

Lastly, I think to try for a drama to reuse character, names and life, it doesn't make sense to make Dr. Qin having to dead girlfriends for two seasons, and tried to make a relationship out of Lin Tao and Chen ShiYu too.

I would say, if you watch the other two seasons, I recommend you not watch this one. Although all the cases are good, I feel that they're trying really hard to make all the cases 'cruel' but then it got repetitive. I personally think if you watch this one first, then you can go ahead and watch the other two.

Highly recommended!

This drama is very refreshing because it is not your typical Chinese romance that you've always watched.

This drama surrounded a loving family, showing three kids from different household and their personal difficulties, and showing how they overcome their pasts and create a better future for themselves.

In this drama, FAMILY is the most important factor, but that doesn't mean there will be no romance, you'll get a bit of both.

It's a rollercoaster, you will laugh, cry, mad, and properly throw your whole tissue box at the screen, but it is totally worth it. Each and every episode, I didn't even skip once.

OSTS are on point, clothings, costumes, speech actings = 10+

HAVE FUN & ENJOY WATCHING

It took me quite a while to finish this drama because I either keep skipping or just push it aside for a while before getting back to it. The main lead can be really cute at times, their interactions and stuff are cute, but in my opinion, I don't feel the chemistry between them. The female lead seems very stiff and dull when delivering her lines, especially during emotional scenes, I don't feel sad at all. Whereas the male lead, his character seems childish at times, and there were times I couldn't even imagine them as a couple. Overall, the storyline is not very original, very cliche and cringy at times because I feel like they're trying to force certain events in the drama that's not very relevant to the storyline. There will be a lot of skipping rather than watching and it will not be worth it. As the audiences, we've seen many remakes or unoriginal storylines but still watched them because of the way the actors' help produced the drama. This drama is not one of those you can rewatch or watch.

Finally, I want to wrap this up by saying just because they did not deliver this drama well as I expected, it does not mean I won't be looking forward to their future work. I've watched The Endless Love that has Miles Wei in the past, and I know for fact he played a very similar character, so I'm hoping for him to dominate a different role to show a different side of him. Other than that, I hope those reading this understand that I'm not hating on the actors but I'm describing the characters they played and my own opinion toward them. If you do decide to watch the drama, watch it without any expectations or compare it to other dramas you've watched before, it will ruin the mood for you and make you want to skip most of the scenes. Watch it with no expectations regarding the storylines or the characters.

I've watched this drama back in 2016. I can tell you that based on my opinion, there wasn't a lot of dramas that fall under the same type/category as this one, and I'm guessing that was one of the many reasons it was popular. This is gaming related drama, that provided a little bit of fantasy because it shows them playing the game and being in the game. There will be a lot of cliches and cringe moments, but the storyline is fluffy and cute as a little refreshment from all your melodrama, etc. Overall, all I can say is watch it as your own risk, some of you might like it, or some of you might dislike it, and I don't recommend this to first-timer since this drama have a lot of mix feelings, and it can change your way of understanding or in the progress of getting to know Chinese drama.
