I’m not excusing bullying because that is a serious offense but even if he was a bully in the past what must…
My problem with this statement is they everyone knows that they mostly do not regret it, they just issue an apology seing they're "sorry, will reflect and hope the fans can forgive". And in the end I think the industry itself tries to cut ties with people like that (who either was a bully or couldn't hide their past) because it could put their next work in jeopardy. Imagine being an actress in a popular drama and out of nowhere there's a scandal that drop the ratings. No one would ever work with that person related to the scandal ever again.

My problem with this is the same in the west or east. They never apology to the person they caused harm to, it's only to the "fans". It is literally "I'm sorry I got caught".

Let's not forget that if true, those people hid this from producers, directors, and everyone in the process of making a drama. They put their entire work in jeopardy because this could've been revealed, especially with the way most dramas are produced.

Just like I don't think they should be banned from society altogether, I also don't think they should be able to hold such an important spotlight in the entertainment industry. What message does that convey?

PS. important sidenote: IF.

Sounds like what a school bully would say..
I don't know if that's the best outcome, really. Honestly, I'm all up for seeing change in people and whatnot, but should someone who allegedly acted like that be a super famous person? What kind of message does that convey? How would the people who bullied and sexually offended feel? And let's not forget that half of those actor/actresses end up playing BULLIED characters sometime in their careers. How f*cked up is that?

And let's not forget that if true, they lied to pretty much everyone in order to get where they are, does that make them deserving of their positions? April's Nauen literrally played a character that was bullied in Extraordinary You, while allegdly being a bully herself (not too long ago).

There should be some kind of punishment for users who share spoilers without using the spoiler tag. Like a period without commenting or something.

The show is ok but the hosts are ruining it. Heechul is barely there, the old guy acts like a kid who doesn't know anything and the young female just goes with the flow (that doesn't exist). The only good host is the guy who used to host Heart Signal. Who would've thought, huh?

Don't mind me haha, I am on my kdrama slump so anything that isn't amazing makes me cringe hard. It's a good drama overall

This is Netflix, they have to appeal not only kdramas fans abut also fans of your usual tv show. They already…
"16 years old contemplating to hold hands? fine I guess, little unrealistic but whatever. 30somethings? get the heck out of here!"

That's the Korea they want to sell you like no one has tattoos, the poor areas are cleaner than your bathroom. A 5-minute search and you will eventually find out the truth about those conditions. The idea that a 32-year-old good-looking woman/man has never kissed before is unrealistic as possible, especially in a country that values beauty above all.

"Not to mention many K movies are really raunchy so that's up Netflix alley."

Exactly.

The main leads are really great. The dynamics of both female leads are good, and the male lead is far from being a perfect human being, which makes this a great drama.

The only problem is that the side characters of this drama are as bad as those gangsters from Strongwoman.

Exactly, and Netflix knows that. Both of their romance dramas are not even 16 episodes long (and they're split in two seasons!). I know that the people who usually browse communities like this one are younger and so on, but at the end of the day, Netflix needs to make the 35 millennial who end up paying the subscription. Don't get me wrong, I really like a well-done romance, but after a few hundreds shows I am over the cliches that most of them have, that's why most of my fav romances for the past few years don't even have a "romance" tag here on MDL. Let's wait and see.

I see exactly where you're coming from. That was exactly what brought me to korean dramas in the first place. The romance that was based on conversation and feelings rather than attraction, but I am sorry to tell you, even that becomes boring after a while. The tiger mom cliche, the misunderstandings, the "I know from our childhood".... All of that becomes boring after a while. Now I want to see a blend of western and east shows, and I think that's what Netflix is planning here, while also getting the 100% korean drama aspect by buying rights from public and cable channels like they've done for the past few years.

In my opinion, Netflix Originals should be exactly like that. They could always get the rights for romcoms and usual romance like they already do. I simply cannot imagine a 3 seasons romance drama. Imagine the amount of dragging.

Exactly. And if we go a little deeper we noticed that most of this dramas have the school setting. Usually targeting people from the 15-25 demographic. Coming from anime I was really surprised that there was not a lot of romance with school/college settings while in anime that was basically the entire background for romance (as long there was no superpowers involved). That changed in the last few years and probably because of what you said. Last year there was a romance drama with both pretty known actors scoring 1% on tVN.

As Korean content matures (no saying that romcoms are childish, I mean in production value) I think we're going to see even less of the usual kiss at ep 06, breakup at ep 13 and get back together at ep 15-16. The change in tone also matches the budget some of this production companies are trowing at dramas. Romcoms are cheap and "easy" to make, but their product value is far from what this companies are aiming for. If Netflix in spending that kind of money on originals, expect more diversity (both in genre and race) and less fluffly romance. Extracurricular in my opinion set the tone for that kind of thing. It has hints of romance and at the same time is as f*cked up as some of HBO shows we've seen in the west. Some of my favourite dramas from the past few years had more of a serious tone and yet were able to hint a possibility of romance here and there. They're still learning, sometimes it's pretty much incest like in Alice, sometimes the romance completly take over the thriller genre ruining the whole plot.

At the end of the day, these changes are natural as soon as it's not " just about South Korea". The United States is a big market, Europe and Brazil are also a big market for Netflix, so if we're talking about ORIGINALS, they will definetly take the data they collected from this places into account when creating a new show. They will make sure to not make jokes about this places and so on. The usual kdrama fan will probably be disappointed with a few things but I don't see ths going back to what it was before 2015, I only see this getting more attetion from other players like Amazon. You will probably always have your romcom from public channels, but for cable and Netflix, experimentation is the way to go.
