The BOMY domestic hit helped him gain more recognition and popularity though obviously did not reach the international level. He got more good resources after that hit. I want to say that before the AOL hit, he has popularity because your wording made it seem he's a nugu. Before the AOL hit, he won many awards on different awarding shows. But due to AOL, he rose to EXTREME popularity (as in very extreme that he appears on every ranking chart China entertainment industry has) that catapulted him and Yang Zi to liuliang statuses. His talent just got more recognized. I don't know in the case of Li Xian because I did not watch Go Go Squid and have not yet researched about him. For Battle of Changsha, as I'm talking about TV ratings here, it achieved 0.86% (not that strong) TV ratings. Maybe what you are talking about is Douban (the online platform) which is entirely different from what I'm talking about. Though I agree that sometimes there's a fine line between ratings and fame but I'm talking about on how DL has gained some popularity in him because of it and I'm not saying he's known for that and not AOL.

Again, Deng Lun has popularity even before Ashes of Love. He has a drama hit from 2017 entitled "Because of Meeting You" that achieved "1.93%" TV Ratings and it did helped him gain more recognition and exposure.It's just that AOL gave him extremely surge of popularity domestically and internationally and turned him into a liuliang. He maintained this popularity with his works after AOL and even now the rankings are updated for September 2021 (I happened to saw the lists of the rankings) and he is still Rank 1 in the 90's actors despite having acting hiatus for 2 years.
