Started great but ended okay.

I love Daomu Biji series with all my heart but I guess it was wrong for me to have discovered the series through Sound of Providence (which is a recent one with great actors and CGs). Lost Tomb 2 is an important part of the whole story which was accurately and greatly conveyed by this drama in its first half. The second half started to become a little dragging and most importantly, it ended with a major cliffhanger. I'm happy to be late in the game to have seen this drama this year when "The Ultimate Note" came out cause if I watched this last year I'd be completely bummed for wanting to know what happened next (although I did searched and read summaries of the novel immediately after cause seriously I WANT TO KNOW HOW THINGS ENDED). This drama is also a good intro for me to Neo, such a good actor.

Brought me to Daomu Biji obsession.

To be completely honest, the only Chi dramas I've seen are the rom-com high school or boss-fell-in-love with secretary or ordinary girl dramas. I happen to bump into this drama and tried one episode out of boredom and curiosity and dang that was the best decision I've made. As someone who loves ancient civilizations - tomb raiding movies/dramas/pieces have been my faves. The cinematography, CGI and cast of this drama is 10/10. There are moments that are dragging but I enjoyed this over-all and because of this drama, I watched Lost Tomb 1, 2, Sand Sea and now the Ultimate Note. I even watched all Mystic Nine dramas and even Golden Eyes (though unrelated). I am re-watching this drama again to put some pieces together (this drama is set at 10 years after the original Daomu Biji story). ZHU YI LONG deserves a special mention! That acting is solid! I also suddenly started to watch his past dramas including Guardian. Overall, I give this a 10 it deserve for introducing me to the Chi Ent industry.

Bad idea to have seen the anime first.

As a fan of XZ, I was so excited for this drama adaptation of the anime that I decided to watch the anime first while waiting. Soul Land really became one of my favorite ever, I still wait for new episodes every week! But, it also definitely is the reason why I am disappointed with how the drama turn out. I can forgive all episodes except the ending. I mean, I cannot say anything else with the acting - XZ is of course amazing as always, so are the other characters. I blame the script/screenwriter for some of the unclear scenarios - like how all the grand soul masters (who has been built up throughout the series as all-powerful) couldnt do a single thing against BBD in the end and how Tang Hao's one flick of hammer practically ended the whole series dryly. I mean they could've at least added a bit of action, like 3-5 punches or kicks?! I'm not sure if there's a season 2, I do hope there will be and that they improve areas! (also hope it's still XZ as TangSan)

It is becoming addicting!

UPDATE after EP 13: I'm obsessed! Highly recommend you START WATCHING NOW :D

Earlier review after Ep 6: I did not have a lot of expectation knowing that most BL dramas had to be straight up bromance so that it'll pass screening. But boy was I so surprised with the first 6 episodes! Boldness aside, I love the humor so far. I know that set or over-all drama might have limited budget vs other wuxia dramas, but the colors and cinematography is making up for any lack of whatever CG I'm used to with magical wuxias. with CASTING gahd! I never thought GJ would be this good in such role. He's on fireee as WKX! Also, if you have ZZH in a wuxia, you're pretty set and sold. ZZH is made for wuxia and for martial arts. I think having ZZH in this BL drama would be a very big advantage compared to past or upcoming BL adaptations- primarily because his fighting scenes look naturally good and he's probably one of the very few who can proudly flaunt and show multiple times his abs and good body and then still look pretty- like how!? Anyways, I'm so excited to see more of this drama. I hope it won't go downhill from here. I'm really really tempted to read the novel now just to know wth is really up with WKX but I'll stop myself cause I want to enjoy this as it goes.
