It’s that usual brain-versus-heart situation. The brain knows he wasn’t at fault for the building collapse or the accident, but the heart still wants to blame everyone even loosely connected to it. It’s not about logic at that point, it’s just emotions taking over. Maybe they don’t consciously place blame, but they still don’t want those people in their life, or in the lives of their loved ones. I can understand expecting that reaction from the victim, but not from the masses.
