So they gave us a special episode yet somehow couldn't spare a few minutes to properly explain how Huayong survived? They gave us some pieces to come up with a plausible explanation but still not enough to complete the picture, and honestly one proper scene would've been far more appreciated than leaving everything up to interpretation. Huayong apologizing for making Xihe "wait so long" pretty much implies she knew he never actually died. They probably planned the whole fake-death stunt from the beginning so he could survive the poison, which also lines up with that conversation he had with the Physician about having one last method left that the Physician hadn't tried.

Well, it all adds up.. mostly. But "mostly" isn't the same as actually showing it. This drama would've been better off with 40 episodes. :[

Somewhere along the way, the story started feeling... off. It's as if the writers themselves weren't entirely sure where they wanted the plot to go. The pacing is all over the place, scenes that add next to nothing keep eating up screen time, while the parts that actually deserve room to breathe are rushed through without a second thought. One of the parts that really threw me off was the whole war arc (or rather, the lack of one.) The male lead supposedly spends months away from his wife, yet the story barely shows what happened in between. One moment they're separated, I blink and suddenly the villains already breached the palace. That was it? No drawn-out campaign, no real sense of struggle whatsoever or sacrifice, just a hard cut from point A to point B as if conquering a heavily fortified palace were little more than checking off another item on a to-do list.

I'm currently on episode 39, but I've been pulling my hair out since episode 36.

I would’ve rated this higher if the plot held up better. The games were all intense except the final one, which fell flat and felt boring. I also wish the characters had been given stronger, more convincing reasons to return to the Borderland. The baby subplot wasn’t too bad here either, definitely not as absurd and forced as the one in Squid Game.

Was that ending taken from the original novel?

I’m on episode 27 and can’t help wondering, will they actually explain in later episodes how the Snake Lord (who’s supposedly thousands of years old) ended up with the identity of Minister Liu’s daughter?

Agreed, she should be at the top of the Support Role section. Meanwhile, Jiang Si’s ex-fiancé, whose death wasn’t even shown, is somehow sitting in the top next to the main leads.

Mingyue got off easy. She should’ve stayed alive for a few more years of torment—she’s only just begun to understand what it feels like to be forced into a marriage she never wanted. 🥴 And the Emperor remains as blind as ever. If he’s backing the Princess Royal just because she saved him once, then did he conveniently erase the fact that Yu Jin took a dagger to the chest for him during the hunt? Selective memory or sheer incompetence, either way he’s far too foolish to sit on the throne. 🥱

You can watch the previews up to Episode 36 on WeTV. But to put it simply, the Princess Royal shows no signs of stopping even after what happened to her daughter. She’s even ordered her men to tail Jiang Si and Yu Qi. Plus, it looks like she’ll be joining forces with the other prince—the one who shares a birth mother with Yu Qi, I forgot his name but yeah.
