So far, it’s just okay. I like the premise enough to keep watching and give it a fair chance.
My biggest issue right now is with the female lead’s portrayal. Since her character supposedly grew up among men and previously served as a battle-hardened general, I expected a tougher and more convincing presence. Instead, she comes across as very delicate, and I’m not seeing much nuance in the performance that reflects the character’s background and experiences.
There are also several scenes where I’m unsure of the intended tone. Some moments feel like they’re aiming for comedy, but the acting delivery makes it difficult to tell whether the awkwardness is intentional or simply a result of weak execution.
For now, the premise is what’s keeping me interested, but I hope the characterization and performances become more convincing as the story progresses.
Prisoner of Beauty started off fairly strong and caught my interest in the beginning. However, around Episode 15, the story began to lose momentum for me, and by Episode 20, I decided to drop it.
As for the cast, Liu Yuning was good and brought a lot of charisma to his role, which honestly makes the disappointment even bigger. The drama had a strong lead presence, but the writing wasn’t enough to keep me invested. Song Zuer was also good in the beginning. I liked that her character came across as intelligent, capable, and interesting at first. Unfortunately, as the story progressed, it felt like her character became increasingly centered on and obsessed with the male lead, which made her less compelling.
The supporting characters also failed to keep me invested, as I didn’t find their storylines particularly engaging.
In the end, I reached a point where I didn’t even feel motivated to continue by fast-forwarding or skimming through episodes, so I decided to stop watching altogether.
