I would agree that ZL'S reason for wanting power is to protect his loved ones. But i wouldnt entirely disregard lord yu's words too: people like ZL usually dont know when to stop. That's why FTY's presence is important. As he said she's his anchor, she would be there to help with his burden and remind him why they started in the first place. Both of them are not perfect people, they have made mistakes and most probably they would make mistakes again.
And, I know it'll be a HE so I'm not that worried.
