My favs though are a little different. I preferre highly intelligent plots & very smart Leads (both FL & ML) I love twisted schemes that are unpredictable but satisfying watching them unfold.
- Nirvana in Fire (many might not like because it lacks romance) but even if you don’t like the genre it is a must. Watch 3 episodes and you’ll be hooked guaranteed
-Story of Miglan This one is tricky (slow in the beginning) I dropped it 3 times at first 😆…by ep 25 I knew i was going to be obsessed. Highly intelligent leads..probably the best schemes in any drama apart from Nirvan in Fire. Then they went and did that magnificent twist toward the end in any drama which inevitably made this my number 1 costume drama ever of all time.
-Joy of Life You might not like the ending to this one because it’s a cliffhanger that should continue on to the next season…I check weekly for updates and it’s been years 😆 but this one is not rated high for no reason. It’s that good
-The Double What can I say…intelligent both leads & strong ML This one you must not missed if you love a pursuit in Jade
-Yanxi Palace Another controversial masterpiece. It’s not like most romance costume dramas. 🤭 but the FL is extremely smart, probably the most scheming character as FL- mostly with good intentions & she doesn’t shy from playing dirty.
finally done and I loved this😭kinda sad that they didn’t add maybe 2 extra eps to show Changning and Bao’er…
It’s high speculation that she is from the future. CPR might be in China history going back but mouth to mouth may not be part of that. She’s a single unmarried mother who became a successful businesswoman….something women that era would avoid in shame yet she strived to be just that. She also played those drinking games. She’s big on cavity too..I’m not even sure back then they would have connected sweets with bad teeth. When asked in the end she only stated she was from a far far away place & she may not be able to get back. She could be a spin off story for the writer later 🤷🏻♀️

Yes…the moment Prince Qi & Qian were hanging he recalled that she once told him that his sins was the he never learnt to let go. So his final act was letting go to die alone.
The uncle was left the only single person alive (due to him killing everyone else) that knew what truly happened 17 years ago so in the end he was fittingly the one that unfolded the story of truth. He trained & fostered his nephew to become such a force showing very little affection towards him as a kid & all the while teaching him to avenge his parents….but he knew he was the person he needed his nephew to avenge against.
The Li grand tutor who tattled on his close friends to the evil Emperor for elevation of status & riches was also left with nothing & no title. His last scene was full of his regrets saying “he became the bad guy for nothing” in the end.
the ending was too rushed and disappointing like we waited for nothing. Yes we can't condemn the whole story only…
I think this is because the true villan to the story wasn’t really important in a sense here. He was already delt with & this whole drama was the aftermath of survival with 17 years of mistakes, obsessions then uncovering the truth that followed. So the end is mainly focussed to putting the pieces together. Throughout the drama we the viewers were constantly being led to uncover who exactly to put the blame & tittle of villan on but we all discovered that all those seemingly evil characters were all once good people that later due to an orchestration from the true villan became obsessed in their vengeance to cover for survival, to avenge & for shameless greed that all went wrong. Which is why I think in the end the writer added a different life line to showcased that without the true villains plans they would all be different.
8.5 is high….anything above that could be considered a masterpiece. The ratings will keep dropping since a lot haven’t finished and put in their votes. Even 1K people voting 9 ratings would drop it little by little. At this stage you don’t judge the actual ratings. You judge by how many watchers(voters) & compared it to the rates. A rating 9.1 especially after a drama finish airing is very impressive and rare already.
In MDL if you check the highest rating dramas you will notice that they don’t position them by the ratings but by their watchers. Judging by how good this drama is I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up sitting comfortably at around 8.8 rating
One of the most popular dramas rated here is 8.8 with over 300k voters….this drama only has around 30k plus voters so it’ll be hard to maintain the highest rating with more people voting later.

I thought abt this too… He contributed to the death of everyone close to him for selfish reasons- Love . Think about though..if ML was in the same predicament I feel he too would abandoned reinforcement to go save FL. The only wrong move he made was trusting Changxin would send reinforcement in his stead so he can go off to save the consort.

Question! What's the deal with uncle Wei's drunken night at the autumn fest?
The emperor wanted to supressed or get rid of the 3 big families in that time threatening his throne. Qi family (Crown prince-mother side) Wei Family (ML’s mother & uncle side) Xie Family (ML’s father side)
He attempted to get rid of Wei family by using Wei’s connection to his consort…Wei was then drugged inside the palace and the Emperor conviently took a strolled with his ministers and found him with a palace maid. His plans backfired….if caught with consort it would have resorted to elimination of 9 generations of the Wei family & since Wei’s sister was married into the Xie family they too would have been shamed even though not involved. Wei never slept with maid…in the end they avoided by using the maid with the help of the consort. Consort at this stage knew what was happening…thus why she cried silently when told she was pregnant because she understood it was fake & thus why when Wei came to rescue her she locked herself in with the fire. She knew the emperor would keep using her somehow to end Wei. Shescrificed for him.
- when the planned backfired…then Months later war broke out the Emperor then used that incident 3 months prior to frame the consort then send fake letters to Wei who then left his post to head to the capital to save her …but in doing so he redirected reinforcements to the crown prince and Ml’s father which cost them their lives. Wei entrusted the tiger seal to his trustworthy general (FL’s father Qilian) to ask for help from the Emperor’s nephew nearby..so he can go save the consort….not knowing the emperor already promised the nephew half his empire to refuse. The nephew did so by claiming the tiger seal shown to him was fake thus making the FL’s father the traitor.
CPR has been around that era…although not sure abt mouth to mouth but it’s been recorded in records in China’s history. Although your comment does make me think a lot abt her character & wordings through out the drama. It would make alot of sense. She was a female business woman and an unmarried single mother…everything about her would make any woman in that era lived in shame yet she strived to be all that. It is the case with good dramas…I still pop in every now & then and read comments, reply and discussed some of my all time favs years after they finish airing.
I haven’t started watching yet, but according to the rating , it must be the best historical drama ever !🙄Lets…
I wouldn’t say the best since people have different tastes but it’s most likely up there with some of the best ever made for these eras. Let’s just say I dropped one of my rare 10 rating on this after completing it. Only minor dissatisfaction for me is that she’s not so great in the intellectual department …(I can’t stand a naive FL) but in her character’s case massive exceptions are made cause she makes up for it with everything else abt her & she’s a straight shooter who lives on following her instincts.
The storyline is a bit predictable personally for me…not many dramas shocks me with a good twist like Story of Minglan or have highly intelligent plot schemes like Nirvana in Fire which are some of my all time fav costume dramas. But the plot constantly throws little lines here & there that makes viewers question or try to predict what’s to come.
I mean, they didn’t end up together, so it’s not like the makers were pushing any wrong message
They made their scenes that of obsessions & survival. She had no choice & literally escapes whenever he lets his guard down. We even saw her tell the kids to act like that.
She detests what he is yet she understood why…but deep down she knew that he was a loss cause & that her son’s safety can only be guaranteed with that ending.
He even asked her her true feelings for him & she simply replied “pity”
Oh?? I’ve been searching times but I must be looking at the wrong places 🫣 Thank you anyways lol that’s plenty of time to make a cup of coffee & finally wait in peace 🤭
im sorry but in like 7 to 8 episodes they just ruined FL character and by extension the drama 😔 so sad 😞.…
I’m curious too why you think this? ….at some point her character has to go through certain changes in order not only to appeared in-front of the emperor but to also have the right to speak. It might not be as exciting as before but it’s not even dramatic that it kills a drama? But if you have only 5 eps left I’m guessing the revelation of her identity is what’s bothering you? If that’s the case then I hope you continue 🤷🏻♀️

You judge the amt of watchers…that’s how they determine how high a drama is here anyways. If over 10k watchers (members) voted and it’s still rating above 9 that says alot abt a drama. I wouldn’t watch a 9.5 rated drama with 100 watchers but I’ll watch a drama with 10K watchers rated at 8.2
I started watching 2 days ago thinking 40 eps is plenty to watch by the time it finish airing today 🤦🏻♀️ Boy I was wrong…I only have the Netflix platform to watch it and they still haven’t aired the last ep in my region. I finished ep 39 this morning barely sleeping in 2 days hooked on this … now I’m tired & mad at Netflix 😒 hurry up!!
