what do you mean by "it went to other character?" You didn't see any changes in Mei Zhuyu at all?
Oh I see, you felt it was abrupt, moving along without flushing things out more, they did cut 2 episodes from this drama, maybe they edited out some stuff there, but I enjoyed the child Mei Zhuyu moments with his former master, I felt those scenes were particularly good and I learned a lot about his past which helped to understand Mei Zhuyu better.
well.. you know what, haters will go and rate it down. I've seen it happened to other Xu Kai dramas.
that is good because ABAY opened at 6.9 and WOL is still at 6.9 and BCE 6.2 so Xu Kai dramas are doing well on Douban.. anything over 6 is considered good
If Taoism (or Daoism) generally promotes harmony, non-violence, and letting go of grudges, how can the Changxi…
This is what I think the answer is: Changxi Palace represents a martial strand of Taoism that historically practiced exorcism to restore cosmic balance, viewing demons as disruptions to the Tao. While this combative approach contrasts with Taoist ideals like compassion and wu wei (non-forcing), it aligns with traditions such as Zhengyi and Maoshan—both branches of Daoism—that regarded spiritual combat as a form of protection.
The drama uses this interpretation to shape Mei Zhuyu’s revenge-driven arc, but also critiques it. His long-standing grudge and the sect’s rigid hostility toward demons are portrayed as spiritually misguided. Through his evolving relationship with Wu Zhen, a half-demon, Mei begins to question the sect’s dogma and move toward a deeper, more compassionate understanding of harmony.
Moonlit Reunion uses Mei Zhuyu’s journey to explore what “true Daoism” really means—especially beyond rigid doctrine. At first, he follows Changxi Palace’s martial interpretation: demon-slaying, ritual precision, and a strong sense of duty. But this path is also fueled by personal pain and an 18-year grudge, which clearly clashes with Daoist values like wu wei, compassion, and balance.
As the story unfolds, his bond with Wu Zhen—who defies the sect’s black-and-white worldview—forces him to confront the limits of his training. He begins to see that harmony isn’t achieved through destruction, but through understanding. That shift—from vengeance to empathy, from rigid control to flowing with life—is deeply Daoist in spirit.
So, Mei Zhuyu doesn’t just learn Daoist techniques—he ultimately embodies Daoist philosophy. His transformation reflects the heart of Daoism: letting go, embracing duality, and finding peace in complexity.
In this way, Changxi Palace remains “Taoist” within the story’s framework—rooted in historical exorcist traditions, but dramatized to explore Taoist themes of balance, transformation, and spiritual growth.
If Taoism (or Daoism) generally promotes harmony, non-violence, and letting go of grudges, how can the Changxi Palace, a Taoist sect in Moonlit Reunion that seeks to annihilate demons, still be considered Taoist?
There was a type of spirit called ‘Undecaying Corpse’, formed when a person died in extreme suffering, their…
Oh I may be wrong, the undecaying bone may be related This "Big Fire" is no ordinary disaster—it's revealed to have supernatural origins tied to demonic forces (specifically, a malevolent entity known as the Sinister Fiend Infant and related "bone demons" or artifacts like the Undecaying Bone, which amplifies resentment and corruption).
My made-up MR version of Mr and Mrs Smith: Mr. and Mrs. Smith—Mrs. Smith is a half-demon who manages other demons in the demon underworld and Mr. Smith is a human who kills them to protect those he love. They live secret lives under the same roof, unaware of each other's true identities. When their worlds collide, domestic warfare and explosive action erupt as they battle each other in their own home. But in the chaos, they rediscover the love that once brought them together. Joining forces to take down the agencies that betrayed them, they emerge stronger as a couple—having survived both life and death.
Thinking of Cat Lord returning home from her night job as the president of Demon Control, and complaining to herself, "What a headache that dream demon gave me, " I thought, she's just like the rest of us, work can be such a headache at times.
Considering the so-called rumours against Xu Kai, this 6.6 is already quite good. Hopefully, it crosses 7
haters are going to be out in full force on Douban. they probably expected a low rating. they didn't expect 2024 to be such a great year for him, so they were plotting for 2025 and I have no idea who these people are but it sure feels real
Watching latest 2 ep.. thinking the Douban score should go a little higher, this is a really good production, there's no other drama like this one.
Watching Xu Kai’s marriage proposal to Wu Zhen again, I thought, Xu Kai’s perfect for this role. He comes across so sincere, and his look feels refined, even with the character’s calm, simple Taoist vibe,
The entire cast is great in this drama
So how does Cat Lord get to work if she's married now?
so Xu Kai dramas are doing well on Douban.. anything over 6 is considered good
