She's actually getting in his way of his plans, so he needs to figure out how to integrate her into his plans, but he knows her from college days and not only respects her although he thinks she's naive and inexperienced which she is in the business world, but she was his first crush, so it's tough balance for a ruthless guy like him to have this soft spot for her, his one weakness.

If I understand what you mean by "second hand", then the only "second hand" was the fl in Arsenal Military Academy because she first had an interest in sml and continued to be interested in sml at the same time that the ml tried to divert her attention to him instead.

All other XK dramas, ml doesn't pursue fl until after fl broke up with bf either at the start of the drama (FIYS, SHPH) or eventually (BCE, ABAY) or else the fl was never interested in him or other men because she has her own mission (WOL, DOTSE). Most of his dramas, the fl did not have another love interest at the same time she likes ml, but sml likes her and not the other way around, so there is jealousy from ml (ALP, CL SEL, WOL), then you have fl liking him since she was a kid and there is not really a sml or if there is, it's very subtle or some villain (RF, LIKLM, SAF6).

She was the original designer of that robot. I think it was the robot she prototyped in college with Han Ting that won them the national contest. It was probably not easy for her to leave that project - it's like her "baby".

There was that scene at the Fishermen Village she spent time with the old lady who had to use an off the shelve prosthetics because custom one is too expensive, she realized with aid of 3D printing, it can make it easier for people like her to have right prosthetics. Then Han Ting reminded her of her original dream.

Don't you think Han Ting is also trying to cover both hardware and software for an integrated solution for his medical robot? Suddenly Ji Xing has become his competitor? Friend or enemy?

I'm glad I read more than half of it so far. It helps me to understand the drama better. I feel the drama has preserved the essence of Han Ting and Ji Xing's dynamics. HT is much older in the novel and Ji Xing is much younger, so that part feels different, but their dialogue and bantering is similar. HT is critical and authoritative and is always mentoring JX yet he's quite sarcastic and intimidating but in a dignified and playful way too. He finds her brilliant yet naive, spontaneous, undisciplined, etc. But along the way, he admires her tenacity and passion even more. He on the other hand always in control. It feels similar in the drama. Even though in the drama, he already knew what she's like from college, but he felt she hasn't changed at all, and he only knew her for one semester? so there is still growth process for them. It's been ten years, so they're still essentially strangers. I don't think HT lived on campus either, so they really just worked on the project together and didn't develop a relationship, but he was just starting to realize he liked her then abruptly left so that unresolved regret stayed with him because he admired this girl from college and never forgot her, and probably his first crush.

If your ex-bf is now dating your girlfriend, there is nothing wrong with that as long as no one cheated before your breakup.

It happens all the time in real life. Someone "dumps" someone, and a friend takes advantage of it. I don't see a problem if they never cheated before a breakup.

He's as dynamic as all the characters he's every portrayed which he creates uniquely with their own personality and mannerisms, and now with his own voice, yet with his Xu Kai mark on them. XK's acting is subtle and nuanced. After watching a certain drama recently, with its constant camera super close-ups of actor faces, I realized, that would benefit Xu Kai a lot.
