Esther Yu can portray innocence so she's perfect for the role but if they casted a more mature and serious looking actress for the role, it would not fit and clash with the ml's youthful demeanor.

I can't' tell but I've heard it described as Cantonese/Taiwan accent. I assumed Cantonese since he spoke Cantonese growing up, but you probably know better than me.
The director also directed Crime Hunting (2022) which got very high ratings and must have been quite popular in China, and elevated Tan Jianci's acting career and a season 2 this year. I hope XK can make a breakthrough with this kind of serious role.
