The drama doesn't tell us too much about her past, but grandma had a miserable marriage that ended terribly and only found happiness when she met Mai's father very late in life probably late 50's to early 60's. Her husband and only son squandered the family fortune, and they were supposedly very wealthy people. She held onto Xing'anli as best as she could, and it became her family. When YZM went abroad as a little kid, she never really saw him again, her only grandson. She tried to make it up to YZM by aligning him with Mai family because she knows her grandson better than he does, that he naturally has good heart.

The cast has chemistry, and the acting is superb. Yue Qi is an amazing character, full of innocence, charm, wisdom, intelligence, and courage. The ml and fl play their bond so well, you feel it, nothing can separate these soulmates. It's a joy to watch them grow together, especially Yue Qi, as she experiences life and death experiences, her intelligence, wisdom, compassion, kindness, and love knows no bounds.

Wan Peng is not suitable for the role of Yue Qi.

here's XK speaking Cantonese. Maybe it's just me but It's only when I heard him speak in Cantonese that I realized how handsome his voice is. There is also another video can't find now but is even better. It is a 2023 yr end long interview, at the end they asked him to speak some Cantonese and the last one he said "Come to Hendian, I'm waiting for you" in Cantonese, his voice is so alluring and of course his expressions and mannerisms as he says it, reminds me of his charm in AMA.

I believe it. I've seen several postings of grandmother's discovering XK and suddenly the mothers and aunties and sisters who watch modern dramas are saying "how did he escape our notice?" Then I read comments of people who said they were not interested in him before but since BCE, they are now. The general sentiments were that they hadn't seen anyone like him in recent years. Then you have SAF6 briefly jumped in popularity due to BCE. These were all indications to me that he was getting noticed, then you have the dance video too which got like 2M views and over 200K comments? So many nice comments about his voice, people really love the sound of his voice. XK has never been promoted so BCE's huge popularity made a lot more people aware of him. In fact, YZM's screen time was not as great yet he still ranked #6 in most popular character among some heavyweights. XK portrayal of the cold and warm YZM has won the hearts of many. Honestly, for me, I'm actually surprised by the attention he has gotten.

This is my personal observation between the two dramas and why it may appeal to some and not others.
Some people watch a drama for the story. 6 has a unique story that tells like a classic, is a complex mystery game, that is philosophical and has the feel of a science fiction, subject to interpretations. It is not an idol drama, or historical period drama or even a fantasy drama involving immortals and Gods. The drama adaptation stayed true to its original storytelling.

4 is traditional adventure and hero stories common in Chinese fantasy dramas.
