I'm come to understand grandma's will. For me Best Choice Ever is grandma gave the hotel to MCH. She made up for past regrets to help him find meaningful life. Grandma said that she does not worry about YZM's career, but that he can find happiness.

YZM's father was in jail past 15 yrs, that would make YZM between 16 to 18 at the time, as we don't know his current age. YZM said he used to eat food off the ground, that line really got to me. I gathered he was not even 8 or 9 when he went abroad, and by the time he was 8 or 9, his father had already abandoned his mother, then the grandmother flew in with cash needed, but soon after, his mother abandoned him for a boyfriend, and died in car accident, so he became orphan. Grandma paid for his living expenses and education, and they did keep in touch. I'm not sure why then he had to also work washing dishes and eat food off the ground, that must have been before grandma flew in to save them from their dire circumstances. This caused him to resent his grandma for many years, but I recall he told MCH mother that he and his grandma did keep in touch when he was abroad and when he returned although with ulterior motives, he and his grandma both expressed they missed each other and kept each other in their thoughts all those years he was abroad. He must have visited his grandma once or twice, perhaps after his high school graduation and college graduation, because Cui said it's been over 10 yrs. since he's been back. YZM did tell MCH that eventually, he realized that had it not been for grandma 's financial support, he would not have made it, and felt grateful. YZM stayed abroad to study by himself and had no desire to return to China. It seems his childhood memories were at Xing'anli and the Western style house where his father lived. He only returned to get rights to Xing'anli for a promotion and return to Switzerland. He's never known what family is.

I think grandma cannot just give money to YZM's father to help him, he will only gamble it away. That explains why she couldn't really help them until circumstances for her grandson were dire, and she personally flew in not only with the cash, but also to lecture YZM's mom and encourage YZM to study. But for whatever reasons, YZM stayed abroad to study by himself, but he always had the financial support of his grandmother and kept in touch with her. It is evident from his interactions with his grandma that he respected and loved her. YZM said his grandma is his only kin, even though his father is still alive, he only regarded grandma as his family.

I'm not that fluent in Cantonese, but I can pick out a lot of words that sound Cantonese especially when the mother and father speak, and their mannerisms are totally familiar to me. when YZM's father said, "I want to treat you to meal, I have money, I have salary", the words sounded Cantonese.

This drama shows the transformative power of love and family.

YZM earnestly speaks to MCH’s mother, seeking a relationship with MCH and a place in their family. He promises to cherish and care for her, offering the love and loyalty he’s longed for but never known. His sincerity and vulnerability make his words all the more compelling.

YZM is willing to commit to something profoundly meaningful and important to him, despite not having a personal history or understanding of it. It’s about the promise of a future filled with love and loyalty that he hopes to build with MCH.

Grandma's letter to YZM was that she hoped by not giving him the hotel, she can make up for regrets, that he can find meaningfulness in life.

This is also another reason grandma gave hotel to MCH. She wanted to give MCH the opportunity to learn, and grandma had faith in her. Cui said that grandma herself was not taken seriously either when she started out as young woman managing the hotel. People looked down on her abilities and she had to learn and prove herself.

The drama does not focus on his job so we don't get to see his cold face, but we see it again when he's challenging Zhang

well, everyone's opinions are subjective based on their own life's experiences, background, knowledge, etc.

Only XK dramas get these sorts of comments:

I didn't complain about negative comments per se, my point was why it appears in droves then doesn't see it for a while.

You mentioned, "I had to skip most of the drama". For me, XK acting is subtle and nuanced. It helps if I understand the character and the plot.
