in the teaser, the way YZM implore the mother to give him a chance to love MCH and become a part of the family, how can she resist the sweetness and sincerity in his voice.
But MCH is 30 years old. She is an adult, and she also needs some personal time, but her mother invades her privacy…
well, it's my own narrow perspective having witnessed a few difficult Chinese parents' children's relationships. Most kids don't know their parent's past struggles because good parents don't want to complain to their kids. Everyone is on MCH side, so I just thinking of the mom too. Early in the drama, MCH was an obedient daughter and try to please her mother and was even understanding of her but now in these later episodes, it's evident that the daughter doesn't' really know that much about her mom because mother didn't tell her about her own growing up struggles and pain and seems like MCH never probed. MCH was much closer to her grandmother than to her mom.
some parents for some reason, don't want to tell their kids their hardships, they really should, most parents just give everything to their kids and hope they live well, and kids not knowing their parent's own sufferings, makes it easier for them to neglect their parents as they become independent, busy, and living their own lives. if they had known, perhaps they would have been less selfish. If kids talk to their parents more, they might actually learn a lot about them.
I think MCH is wrong in talking to her mom this way. I don't care how wrong her mom is. The stress of MCH job is obviously getting to her. It's sad when parents give everything to their kid, the kid become financially independent then they don't need their parents and find their parents are nuisance. Some parents don't have the strong personality like this mother, and they keep quiet, and let it be, and die lonely. This mother is a fighter.
the way the drama is going, they're created two motherless characters to help MCH know what a blessing her mom is.
YZM, who craves maternal affection, sees the mother’s behavior as loving, while MCH had too much of it, see it as intrusive.
YZM appears to have developed a strong emotional attachment to MCH’s mother, which is likely rooted in his own lack of maternal care. His near-tearful reaction (XK acted well here) to her concern suggests a deep appreciation for her nurturing qualities ("It's getting cold. I'm afraid she'll get sick"). YZM values the mother’s love and concern, seeing it as genuine and heartfelt. This perception is contrasted with how MCH and her brother view their mother’s actions. For MCH, the mother’s behavior is seen as meddling rather than caring. She is beyond overwhelmed by her attentiveness, perceived as catastrophic interference, because it ends in disaster.
This is one of the factors causing the personality changes of YZM 1.0 to YZM 2.0
the intro of Zhang 's daughter is to help MCH realize how precious her mom ' s love it. Not everyone have a loving mother like hers.
I do feel for the mother although she's not that old yet, but old people are often forgotten. and this mother is at least in China in her own language, unlike the immigrant parents who cannot speak English have it much tougher than her.
I'm speculating here: It seems YZM still needs to acquire the hotel, but he wants to replace Zhang as top director or whatever her title is in Shanghai. Zhang is only half a level higher than YZM. It won't be much of a promotion for him, but at least he can stay in Shanghai and manage the hotel development of Xing'anli for Yueda Group according to his grandma and MCH's values and vision. Originally, he was going back to headquarters and leave it to Zhang who would be promoted to oversee greater area of Asia region, but now he understands she is not the right person to handle Xing'anli development. It was Zhang who became impatient and called their boss and pushed the merger to YZM. I thought Zhang had some kind of power over YZM but the drama is not revealing anything of that sort. The hotel clearly needs resources of Yueda Group to survive. YZM will negotiate the best deal for MCH. Even though MCH is wealthy but tied up in the hotel. Maybe YZM can negotiate a sweet deal for her that she can get some cash out and also retain majority ownership.
So we had Mai n Mum today... coming up with another perspective - Zhang n Mum soon...
Zhang's situation is actually worse than MCH in my opinion. Her mother doesn't like her and gives her to a guardian, so she doesn't have to deal with her anymore and neglects her completely. All rich parents care about is that their kids go to the best schools and get top positions to make them look good.
MCH brother: "In this family, I'm not important, When I was young, you sent me back to our hometown. You didn't want me." What I don't understand is that his parents are so poor, I feel that he should have understood their motives, but perhaps because it seems he suffered a lot under his caretakers which is the real cause of his resentments.
I know an exact situation like this in Chinese family. Everyone in the family said she has to help with the family business, so give her baby to the mother-in-law to take care. She didn't see her kid until years later. When the girl grew up, she resented her mom. The mom lives with this pain and guilt and try to reconcile but it's not easy to reconcile.
the way MCH mom insists her kids respect their elders, that's the way she was brought up. The mother said "people will say I did not teach you" I think must be common phrase.
Screenwriter please don’t break up this sweet couple 🥰
I don't think so because the drama is anchored around the fl and her conflicts with mostly her mom and her career, so a breakup doesn't make sense or if there is one, last a minute. The purposes of the ML character besides romance, he is the character throughout the drama that has been in her shadows helping her and really, ironically, the peacemaker, which is really weird given his past, did not expect this. In the first half of the drama, shows that although he is ruthless, he does have a soft side to him but who knew he is this wise about relationships given he is supposedly a loner.

"Mrs. Mai is adorable, I like her"
does MCH brother have a job in law firm now?
