Almost every police drama Male character looks like this
it's common Chinese hair style back then. Most Chinese people have really straight hair so bangs will stick out when cut that way. People were outdoors so of course they'd be tan.
If you are watching for free on WeTV, watch it as soon as it's free otherwise Tencent will make it VIP, like ep.3 is now VIP, and no longer free. Ep 7 is free now.
Ripe Town is part of Tencent’s X Theater collection, and it’s also streaming on Viki. So why can’t Eight Hundred stream on Viki too? Does it just need enough user requests? Also, Ripe Town is free on Viki and Tencent You Tube channel. I hope they eventually make Eight Hundred free too so more people can watch it.
Your guess is as good as anyone. I like to see it when it's done airing. There are enough 1- and 2-star comments for ridiculous reasons like why she is reusing her contact lens case or things cost less back then or the character sells drugs. You see very few users criticizing Xu Kai's accent or his voice delivery. The rolling 100 comments are averaging in the low 7 out of 10 range because there are many 4-star and 5-star comments, so I'm hopeful with a good ending, it will come in at least a 7. Anything over a 7 is a very good score. I think most viewers are enjoying the drama.

I think the hospital scene in Episode 2 is masterfully done and essential for understanding Chen Hui’s desperation to save Songge. It’s packed with emotional detail, but so much of it is subtle enough to miss on a first watch.
Some dramas are heavily promoted on dual platforms and CCTV too but This dramas has just basic promotion and's can only be found on one platform and it’s you tube channel and no where else, is that right?
Some Chinese Douban user complained “I can't even find this drama on TV.
🥌All of them are available. There is no homepage. There is no TV series section. I can't find it manually.”
That’s because it’s It is a web‑only series that streams exclusively on WeTV / Tencent Video,
Thats why popularity can be misleading. How do you compare a drama on many platforms web and tv to one limited to single web platform
Nostalgia: a sentimental, often bittersweet longing or wistful affection for the past, particularly for specific…
That’s what I thought nostalgia is a longing in your heart for what was in a past time period. The characters in this story probably wished for a different fate in a different time. This drama is unlike those other nostalgic dramas of life in China. The circumstances in this story really transcends time and place.
So many dramas in the 70s 80s and 90s,china is having a nostalgia hangover lately
This is not nostalgic story. It seems it’s just the opposite. It could happen anytime and anywhere. It’s about a young man who sees no other way so he is willing to take the wrong way. It’s not nostalgia about a time period in China thought the setting is 1997 in a small coal mine town.
The story was fantasy.
