On Love in Red Dust Mar 1, 2026
The male lead is a Huanyu artist and the female lead is a Hesong artist, and their studios maintain a long‑standing, extremely tight partnership. The director has also sustained a remarkable streak of hits and high MDL ratings ever since Ashes of Love (2018). His career shows a clear pattern of repeat collaborations, having worked with Dilraba three times and with Huanyu three times.

Person Xu Kai
I like him as an actor and want to watch more of his dramas. So far ive only watched falling into your smile (was…
I like Zhu Zhanji (the imperial grandson) in Royal Feast (historical) and Yang Hua (the finance genius) in She and Her Perfect Husband (modern), but I thoroughly enjoy the tender and beautiful love story between Bai Jue (True God) and Shanggu (Goddess) in Ancient Love Poetry (xianxia) and its entire cast. Also, the amazing actress, Zhou Dong Yu is a real treat to watch. And honestly—who doesn’t love Li Ni (Wonderland of Love) and Han Ting (As Beautiful As You), two absolutely perfect men? Xu Kai's chemistry with Yang Mi (SAHPH) is the best. I also like his chemistry with Jing Tian (WOL), it was as real as it gets on screen.

The iconic Gu Yan Zhen (Arsenal Military Academy)… well, he’s simply iconic. We can never forget Fuca Fuheng (Story of Yanxi Palace); he’s the one who started it all for Xu Kai. Bian Luo Han in Sword and Fairy 6 is so exquisite yet so melancholy. Once Upon a Time in Lingjian Mountain is one of the two Xu Kai dramas I still can’t find all the episodes for, but Wang Lu, the prodigy, is an amazing character. The drama even has a high Douban score of 7.0 and was very popular in China.

I recently rewatched The Legends after three years and realized how much I actually like his character, Mo Qing / Li Chen Lan. His acting is really good—way better than I remembered the first time. He has such limited screen time across 56 episodes that I must have lost track before, but this time I made sure to watch closely for his scenes. Xu Kai’s talent has been there from the very beginning.

Falling into your smile is not the kind of story I normally would watch but I really enjoy the entire cast. The show has so many fun, memorable moments, and Xu Kai is incredibly handsome and charming as the cold‑yet‑caring captain (Lu Si Cheng or Cheng ge) who falls for a girl on his team. He’s strict and demanding with others, but he also comes to recognize his own shortcomings and learns to grow so he can better support his team. Modern romances like this can sometimes drift into cheesy territory, but Xu Kai’s modern roles never do—they stay natural, grounded, and genuinely appealing to me.

Title Unveil: Jadewind Spoiler
The final powerful scene, riding off into the sunset, both dressed in bright red, gave a traditional, male‑led look.

It's likely that they wanted the final ride to look epic, fast, and romantic. Having the taller ML ahead makes the shot look naturally powerful, balanced, and cinematic without extra tricks. If they forced the shorter FL in front, it would be harder to film at high speed, might look awkward because of the height difference, and could ruin the smooth, thrilling energy they were going for.

For me, "without caring who she hurt" would be out of character. She took meticulous steps to make sure no one got hurt in the process of revenge. Her character is both cold and hard yet kind and righteous.

Title How Dare You!? Spoiler
Even though Legend of the Female General performed really well, I think this drama is shaping up to be Cheng Lei’s biggest hit and the strongest performance of his career. It should give Mo Li a major boost when it airs later this year. Usually, when someone gets discovered the way he did—just doing small roles on the side to help out friends—it means there’s something naturally compelling about him that stood out. Prior to 2023, he was only doing short dramas with episodes barely twelve minutes long. What an amazing trajectory to break into the industry in this way.

Reading Class was filmed 5 yrs ago. His career is interesting because I noticed he did short dramas before 2023, the episodes are like 12 min. He's definitely working hard past two years putting out 3 dramas a year means no time off. So, it is possible to start out in short dramas and move to long form once you gain traction.

I’m not really into political and very violent dramas. Is this one like that? And does it have any romance?
Chinese dramas, even the gory ones, don’t bother me the way Hollywood ones do. I think it’s because Chinese dramas focus more on style than realism, so even violent scenes feel more like art than something that could actually happen. There was only one eerie character in this drama that genuinely scared me — the kind of Halloween‑type creepy that makes you afraid something might jump out at you in the dark. Normally, even spooky scenes in Chinese dramas don’t scare me at all, and I’m a total scaredy‑cat. Again, I think it’s because they’re stylized, not realistic.

I'm on the USA Netflix track so this is only for ep 33 (finale tomorrow for us). NGL I'm still on Huaijin's ass…
I just finished ep. 33. ML’s arc got chaotic. He’d been consistent up until the moment he stopped her from killing the prime minister, but after that his behavior changed — in ep. 33, he became more aggressive and rasher, which didn’t match the character I was watching before. His acting was stronger before that shift, and it shows that even a good actor needs a solid, coherent arc to work with. Maybe in ep. 34, he will change back, now that the plot is done.

It’s not confirmed and teasers like these often end up nowhere. So don’t get your hopes up.
Changing the ML is simple — they can write him out and bring in someone new. Replacing the FL is harder because she is the story, so switching actresses changes the whole feel. If Season 2 isn’t focused on her anymore, then recasting won’t remake the entire show — it just makes her character feel different while everything else continues as usual. People will still compare the two actresses, and sometimes the original looks better, sometimes the new one does. It’s unpredictable.

Title Unveil: Jadewind Spoiler
The Cui family (particularly the Boling Cui which I think this drama is based on) was super elite in the real Tang Dynasty—one of the top aristocratic clans, often seen as even more prestigious than the imperial Li family in social and cultural circles. Historical records show they were so prestigious that Emperor Taizong reportedly felt displeased when told the Cui were more influential than the imperial Li family in social/cultural terms.

"Consort Shu (Cui Yuyao) in Unveil: Jadewind is a softer, more innocent version of the ‘favored consort’ type. The closest real historical comparison is Yang Guifei (Yang Yuhuan), the famous Tang dynasty consort. Yang Guifei was one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, was deeply loved by Emperor Xuanzong, came from a powerful family, and her relatives gained huge influence at court. The emperor neglected his duties for her, she lived in luxury, and her beauty and talent were legendary — but her story ended tragically when she was forced to die during the An Lushan Rebellion because her family was blamed for the crisis.

Consort Shu, by contrast, is portrayed as kind, gentle, and not personally scheming. She feels more like a beloved pawn caught in her family’s politics, while Yang Guifei was a glamorous, tragic figure tied to real historical downfall."

The CP says, ‘one Cui falls, another can rise.’ It feels like the drama is ending the Cui storyline as a tragic fall from power, but not a total destruction of the clan. It leaves room for the Cui family to come back and avenge his death. That's why the CP needed to end the consort's influence. Perhaps the emperor has always had his political reasons to keep Cui family alive despite their corruption, as well as his love for his consort, but I think more for political reasons.

Li Peiyi's master had to know but sheltered her from it to protect her. She has to find out the hardest way on her own. Well, she was so tormented and traumatized, He wanted to protect her.

In this drama, Esther Yu’s voice and performance are spot on. I can’t speak for her other roles, but she was absolutely the right choice for this fantasy character. She brings the animated version to life so well.

On Love Story in the 1970s Feb 24, 2026
There was no tv back then in 1975 in China and no NBA exposure. They didn't know how to shoot basketballs the same way nor be doing layups, but I really doubt that the schools had a basketball team, and even if they did, they wouldn't be playing it the same way. Fundamentals were drilled in a rigid, collective way, not the creative, individualistic shooting or layups of the NBA. Chinese basketball in the 1970s (and even into the early 1980s) leaned heavily on two-handed set shots or basic one-handed push shots from mid-range or farther out. This was a holdover from pre-1960s global basketball styles—reliable, high-arc releases with both hands for power and consistency, drilled endlessly in sports schools. Even in the late 1970s, Chinese players' shooting was "mainly manifested as two-handed dunk
