a show filled with all the best tropes in the best way

Bad Buddy was my first foray into the world of Thai BL's which was a world i was hesitant to step into because of how much content there is, but i gotta say...what a show to pick as your first.

I spent 12 weeks watching the story of Pat and Pran and their journey from being so called enemies to the most loveliest couple that I have seen on tv in a long time. I contribute that all to the fantastic chemistry of Nanon and Ohm and the very apparent comfort they have with another that translated so well on screen for their characters. The show had such a nice balance of high comedy moments and then moments where you're crying because you can't bear the thought of something bad happening to these boys who deserve the world and more!

AND THE MUSIC! i would be remiss to not mention the music in this show! It helps that they had Nanon as Pran because that boy can SING. He provided two very lovely and heartfelt songs that are so very special to the show and i will forever have them on my playlist to remind me of the 12 weeks i got to spend watching this series.

I have to shout out to the inclusion of the ink/pha side couple which was VERY unexpected but oh so welcome! So often we see the female addition to the main couple be there for drama and then have little to nothing in the show to offer after, but bad buddy thankfully did not go down that path and instead gave us a sweet little romance that was presented so sweetly even with the short amount of time.

Overall, this show had a lot to be happy about: a feel good romance, well crafted angst, sweet side couples, hilarious group dynamics, GREAT soundtrack, and a general good vibe about everything.

I wouldn't take back a single moment spent watching this show whether it was alone or with a group of friends and I hope others who decide to give the show a chance also have the best time getting to see the beautiful and heartfelt romance and story of Pat and Pran - two boys who weren't allowed to be friends and then decided they couldn't be Just Friends ):)

I could not recommend this enough! Well worth the watch!

An overall enjoyable experience

I really liked this drama! It started off very strong in the first half and I confess I did feel a bit frustrated by the pace of the plot in the 2nd half, but it wasn't enough to detract from my enjoyment of the series overall.

the plot is very simple and has little to no angst that doesn't get resolved almost immediately which could be refreshing if you are looking to step away from all the angst filled content out there these days. the characters are fun and loveable and main couples are very sweet and endearing to watch. i always had a smile on my face watching every week and i confess i will miss watching this cute little show every Saturday.

if you're looking for something much like cherry magic (or even just a lighthearted BL), but a little different this is the show for you! it's only 10 episodes at 20ish mins per ep and it doesn't require much of a time commitment nor will it feel like one once you jump in and start watching these characters navigate through a love mix up and the hijinks that follows.

highly recommended :)

not what was advertised

I feel like there were many more cons than there were pros when it came to watching this show.

The pro? the acting was passable...mostly.

the con(s)? almost everything else? the writing and plot were weak and made absolutely zero sense at times. the 'conflict' of the story came out of nowhere and it made absolutely no sense and resolved almost instantly with no communication or whatever between the leads. I also found the chemistry to be lacking between the leads and how they 'fell in love' was so unrealistic and a case of what you would call instant-love which in some stories is fine if it's written well....which it was not in this case.

it was a mess of a show that desperately needed reworking of the script and the chemistry with the leads because none of it meshed well or worked.

overall, I would not recommend this if you're looking for a good BL to watch there are muuuuuch better ones out there.

japan's bls just hit different don't they?

I always feel a sense comfort when I watch a japanese bl and its because of their comforting auras and dedication to giving us soft and sweet romances that will rot your teeth.

I LOVED this series! it was short, sweet, and left an impact! the chemistry between the leads was FIRE and beautiful. the progression of their little dates and their relationship was so fun to watch. i think episode 4's confession scene is something that will live in my mind for a long time. the acting was SO good and the fact that it is filmed in a single shot was incredible and added to the overall effect of the scene.

this series was five episodes of pure bliss!! i would rewatch this entire series in a heartbeat for all the serotonin it gave me each week~

What was the point of this series?

I wish I could tell you what the plot of this show was, but I watched all eight episodes and I still don't understand the show or what it was trying to do. Nothing made sense right down to the final minute and I feel like I just wasted a bunch of time watching this. I think I know what the show tried to tell, but it was executed terribly that it fell flat.

The acting was mostly not good, the chemistry between the leads was ehhhh, the story was non-existent, the side characters were unnecessary and added nothing to the story, and overall it was just a mess.

What was the plot with Nawee's dad and his brother? and why was that introduced last minuted and did not get resolved? it added nothing to the plot because it went absolutely nowhere. I get it was for angst, but again it felt plopped in there and did not make sense.

I seriously don't understand the main romance and how it went from them actively disliking another to an episode later they are in love?? i know BL plots move fast, but this one moved a little too quick without any explanation as to why. I understand the two had been in a show together before, but i wasn't feeling the chemistry. It felt stilted and weird. I didn't buy that they fell for each other.

I would not waste my time watching this or even recommending it. There is far better LGBT+ content out there that is much more enjoyable to watch.

hell really is other people

I finished this show 2+weeks ago and i'm still thinking about it and lowkey considering rewatching it. It hit all the notes and even though I know a season two wouldn't make sense, I want more!

This was my first foray into Korean thrillers/horrors and boy did I ever pick a doozy. I have had this show on my watchlist on netflix since early 2020, but never took the plunge to watch it and now I am regretting that. It is SO GOOD. Like....really good. I didn't know what to expect going into the show, but it was so so much better than I ever thought it would be.

I could go on and on about the story, the music, and most importantly THE ACTING. The entire cast was so creepy and enthralling. Lee Dongwook and Im Siwan had some crazy chemistry and their scenes were always just on another level of creepy and intrigue.

All in all, I would recommend this to anyone who likes things that are a little messed up and crazy, but with a kickass soundtrack and a very talented group of actors. I will be rewatching this in the near future and losing my mind at it's brilliance, again.

it's painful, but worth it.

10/10 would go through the pain of 9 episodes of angst to watch episode 10 again and feel joy.

the to my star series is easily one of the best and well crafted korean bls out there. ms hwang da seul i owe you my entire life!!! will watch anything attached with this woman's name guaranteed! her vision is so simple, but beautiful. my heart broke for seo joon and ji woo every week in hopes that their love could be reconciled and over the ten episodes we get to see the boys in a different light and see the change in their relationship from what it was in its early stages. i felt despair upon watching episodes 7 and 8 and thinking...how can they ever come back from this, but I should have known to trust that there was an endgame in sight (even if it was a bit rushed imo) and pure elation i felt watching episodes 9 and 10 was so special. this series is so special to me. im sad that we won't get to see more of seo joon and han jiwoo's story, but i am glad that I got to go along on the journey we did get.

now its time to do a full series rewatch!

a drag to get through

I wish I would have enjoyed this given how much I was looking forward to it from the trailers, but ultimately it fell very flat for me and was mostly unenjoyable. The jokes were almost always unfunny and the acting was....not good. I do understand it was meant to be a light and fun comedy/drama and not to be taken too seriously, but boy.....it just felt like a drag to get through.

The earlier episodes were at least kinda fun and goofy, but I found as the episodes went on it got very boring and honestly I couldn't wait until it was over. I can safely say I won't be revisiting this one anytime soon or recommending it.

5/10
