I think the reason why a lot of people feel uncomfortable with this drama is because the men are so reminiscence…
This is very well said. I can't quite pinpoint why this drama's not resonating with me, especially with how they portray societal views of men and women, and you made several interesting points. I'm wondering if there is or could be a fine line in portraying these subject matters with as much care and sensitivity when the overarching genre of the drama seems to lean more towards the romcom territory.
I think what contributed to the low budget vibe is how it's quite obvious they were filming majority of the street…
Also to add: as they aren't able to use natural light given that they're in a soundproofed stage/controlled environment, it gives off that off-putting feeling when you look at the overall aesthetics.
Liu Xiening's killing it! I always have a soft spot for the eldest daughter who had to stand up as the mom for their siblings and another pillar for their household. I can't wait for her subplot to be explored further.
Currently on episode 3 and was wondering how the mother would've survived without her daughters. She's not business-savvy and seems to be gullible as well. I can't help but shake my head whenever I see her, especially with how she just opened business without a strong strategy and now with the zither.
Currently watching ep 1 and got sidelined into reading about the failed Wuxu Reform. It's such a revelation to me that there were important people who pushed for establishing constitutional monarchy in China but were silenced by the ruling conservative elite.
