I rewatched this again because funnily enough it has the same English title as my December obsession 九重紫 and because I seem to have forgotten everything about this one save for the major plots. After watching 5 episodes, it is no wonder I've erased this in my memory because JJY parody of Yang Cai Wei is even more irritating and annoying watching the second time around. How could the writers highlight her lack of nuance, maturity and grit by completely changing Yang Cai Wei character and turning her into an emotional teeny bobber who wants to play act as a coroner.
I highly doubt the real Yang Cai Wei would be so careless, stupid and dim to jump to conclusions on what happen on the wedding night. Instead we are treated with typical bratty behavior, pouty lips and overly thick makeup from our FAKE and ditzy Yang Cai Wei who spends several episodes trying to pin the ML as the culprit.
Also something that I just realized watching after a few episodes is that Punlee and Muenfah are brothers. I was thinking the whole time calling each other bro/brother were just close friends calling each other that.
Episode 22 was intense, all the villains finally showed their true colors. Evil stepmom and uncle were huge annoyance before but now they've completely embrace their evil roles.
ZYC best role is still the Sleepless Princess. I think he does well in cold and angsty roles. This playful ML is not his forte plus the story is a doozer. The FL isn't helping either, she isn't someone you'd waste time watching if the story and plot isn't as strong and interesting. Look at Legend of Anle, a far more lousy high budget drama but Reba is a beauty so it still got good ratings and discussions from netizens.
Great for the director to finally get the praise he deserves after Blossom. I really think it was Familiar Stranger that finally sealed the deal for him and he got to direct Blossom because that low budget short drama had better cinematography and directing than 95% of full length C-dramas.
It's a competition for me between Edward Guo and him for the most aesthetic and cinematographic director. I'm actually leaning towards him because his style is a lot more accessible and relatable to viewers.
I am loving the accents and personal touch the director is giving this drama. The way he creates atmosphere and beautiful moments is one of the best I've seen. I especially like the scenes with the butterflies and the scene in episode 9 with the bamboo leaves brought by a gentle breeze.
Shut up. You want a Mary Sue character go watch Blossoms in Adversity. If you want to watch Wonder woman go watch Gal Gadot and her terrible acting. Enjoy and stop loitering here with your shallow mindset and POV.
Good thing FL slapped the ML back to reality in episode 11. His pompous arrogance, conceited narrow view of the world and this all encompassing feeling he is entirely justified turning the world upside down got a good hosing with that talk by the river.
All of the ML's subordinates are absolute dolts and only good for fighting. They are literally competing who is the most stupid one. I'm getting extremely irritated watching the ML's stooges because all they do is gossip and incite conflict. Crossing my fingers the kill list in the end will include them.
The ML is very prideful and insolent no wonder he idolizes his uncle. This maniacal loyalty borders on a weird fetish. Where's propriety and self-control? All his actions up to this moment is some sort of grievance to what happen to his uncle. Whether it's trying to massacre an entire estate or forcing his way to the palace. I just realized that in the first episode and in the possible future, he went on a rampage including killing his own father and brother. Is he gonna end up killing them too in this lifetime?
WTH! the ML tried to silenced FL and her entire retinue all because of one kid. Somehow all the talk of fairness and justice have been thrown out the window and the injustice the general receive will have been paid by innocent people had FL not intervene. I think this drama will be FL trying to control ML's vengeful and vindictive actions from repeating like in the future they came back from.
What happen to the general was the perfect example of the tall poppy syndrome rearing it's ugly head. Did anyone think otherwise his arrogant and irreverent attitude would be forever ignored by the powers in the imperial court.
