Both dramas are based on the same history surrounding Hong Taiji and Da Yu'er. The characters in The Promise of Chang'an are counterparts of historical figures in Qing Dynasty during the respectful time period:
He Lan Mingyu - Da Yu'er
Xiao Chengxu - Dorgon
Xiao Chengru - Hong Taiji
He Lan Wanyin - Ha Lan Zhu
The only significant difference is the Promise of Chang'an is set in a fictitious dynasty rather than the Qing Dynasty due to censorship.
It's also ironic that Han Dong (who played Dorgon in 'In love with Power') plays Xiao Chengrui, Hong Taiji's counterpart.

totally different story/genre/feel, but I recommend because both have same rare situation in romance part.

If you liked story line where FL loves man even knowing he is gay, and that man also loves her, is friend and support for her, cares for her, but of course different way, he romantically loved other man, but now tries to be man/husband for her; also there is another man who loves FL... then you should try second drama too.

SB is more drama, intense plot, revenge and serious vibe, Hyena in more light and more romance focused

Both dramas have gentle and warm male leads who love books but have deep scars in their hearts.
The dramas have a similar feel with the script and acting. WTWIF is a slower burn slice of life romance but has a calming and sweet vibe to it, where MAW is a fantasy romcom with a cuter and more lively vibe.

They are Japanese and Chinese version of the same series, despite some differences. I prefer this 2009 version rather than 2018 one. It's more emotional, more invested in growth about the characters and more intriguing.
