Simply put. The girl has a single-minded pursuit for a man she's fallen in love with at the first sight. The girls find ways to ensnare themselves into the lives of the guy, compliment their career to his. Their families get involved --- ie "GRANDPA".
There aren't really other players intervening into the relationship to cause problems.

Rather than programming & gaming. We're looking at architecture & manga/art (world) which was specifically pointed out in ep. 2.

Based on character personalities:
1. Girl - bubbly & Cute/ Guy - "Appears" cold but reasonable, overprotective; ill-mannered at times.
2. Girl - falls in love at first sight/ Guy - shocked but isn't annoyed by her pursuit
3. Granpa is all in for his grandson to be in a relationship & approves of her.
4. Both girls have Nian as their first names. ^_^

Lots of similarities w/ a few tweaks here and there. I love them both.

Similarities
- Both dramas revolve around family, sacrifice and regrets especially the relationship between parents and children + spouses.
- Both dramas have a warm feeling to it.
- Both dramas are have a parent as the protagonist - father in 18 again, mother in Hi Bye Mama.
- There is no real villain
- Both dramas highlight some social issues. 18 again: women empowerment, teen pregnancy, bias in society, etc. Hi Bye Mama: bias against step moms.

Differences:
- While 18 again revolves around love and hurt on a daily basis within a family, hi bye mama is themed around the pain when one is lost to death.
- 18 again is a lot more realistic and relatable and has only one fantasy element to it while Hi Bye Mama has more fantasy elements to it compared to 18 again
- 18 again's driving regret revolves around what could have been done if family wasn't there while Hi bye mama's regret revolves around what could be done for the family.

Both movies are directed and written by the same person - Arvin Chen, star Jack Yao as ML and have a similar night-time Taipei feeling to them. While Mei is a short film, Au Revoir Taipei is a more fleshed out feature film that also focuses more on comedic aspect.
