Masato is a young ramen chef in the city of Takasaki in Japan. After the sudden death of his emotionally distant father, he chances upon a suitcase of memorabilia and a red notebook—filled with musings and old photos—left behind by his Singaporean mother, who died when he was just ten years old.

Acting on a hunch, he takes off for Singapore with the notebook, hoping to piece together the story of his life, as well as that of his parents. There he meets Miki, a Japanese food blogger and single mother who helps him track down his maternal uncle Ah Wee, who runs a bak kut teh stall. Masato discovers that his grandmother Madam Lee is still alive, and that she holds the key to the tender yet turbulent love story of his parents. Masato and his grandmother try to heal each other's broken souls, and they find salvation in the kitchen, where the meals they cook become more than the sum of their ingredients.

~~ A co-production between Singapore, Japan, and France.

Jake Adelstein is the first Western reporter ever to write for a Japanese-language newspaper.

Based on his memoir, "Tokyo Vice" is Jake's daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo, where he embeds himself into the police squad and becomes enmeshed in the hidden, complex, and corrupted cultures of the city's vice cops and the criminal underworld.

"Tokyo Vice" takes us deep into a series of overlapping worlds, where no one and nothing is who or what they seem.

~~ Loosely inspired by the memoir "Tokyo Vice: An American Reporter on the Police Beat in Japan" by Jake Adelstein.
~~ A co-production between the U.S.A and Japan. Edit

They are paired as laotong by a matchmaker who is also responsible for arranging their marriages. They are isolated by their families and communicate by writing in a secret sisterly language, Nü shu (a historical practice in China in that period) on a unique Chinese fan that Snow Flower possesses. In the present day Shanghai, their descendants Sophia Liao and Nina Wei struggle with the intimacy of their own pure and intense childhood friendship. As teenagers, Sophia and Nina were introduced to the idea of laotong, and they signed a traditional laotong contract on the cover of Canto-pop Faye Wong's album Fu Zao (Restless in English). Eventually they are separated but come together again when Sophia falls into a coma after being struck by a taxi while cycling. Reunited at long last, they must come to understand the story of the strong and close ancestral connection hidden from them in the folds of the antique white silk fan or lose one another forever in the process.

I really don't like comparing these two because Jark Sadtroo is so much better than TDA but if you want a similar storyline, watch Jark Sadtroo instead its my favorite lakorn and serves many romantic scenes as opposed to The Deadly Affair or should I say *Meena's* affair
