painfully beautiful
so well done that it makes my heart hurtthis drama is heavily family based and focuses on the day to day situations they each have, whether its the parents or the kids. what i really like about this so far is how normal it is and yet it can make me feel so many emotions. it's the perfect blend of everything — comedy, drama, slice of life. reminds me of home. it makes me think of all those good times i had as a kid with my family with no worries or responsibilities. crying as i write this LOL1!!!!
the characters are really easy to fall in love with — they all remind me of someone i know and i see myself in all of them at the same time. the parents are naggy and caring and it makes me miss my parents. it makes me miss the carefree days i had when i was younger where my biggest worry was homework. tbh idrk what to say because i dont have the right words but this show , that i'm not even finished, is a masterpiece. its nostalgia as a show. its heartbreak and joy and love and loss. its everything :(

Made my heart grow three sizes
My heart grows three sizes when I think of this show. I love its nostalgia, childhood friendships, family and found family bonds, slice-of-life moments, awkward young romance, and combo of humor and heart. It's one of those shows where you feel like everyone - writers, directors, actors, musicians, etc - were all putting their hearts into it. I really cried at the end when they were grown up and moving out of the neighborhood!Was this review helpful to you?
The story in overal was good, some partes were boring in my opinion, and some really made me laugh out loud...I really liked all the families and the characters with their actors...Hyeri is really one of those idols that surprised me acting.

Really well made, lovely acting and all around fun to watch. They pushed it a little with the length of each episode. Faster pace and some scene-cutting could have done wonders. Of course, I was in the wrong boat (Damn it junghwan!!) so in the end I felt a bit cheated personally. So close, yet so far... Damn you, second lead syndrome!
Watching this live really does you in. I wouldn't rewatch, but I'll always remember its magic.

Nothing will beat this
I pretty much dislike every show I come across - but Reply 1988 was a top-tier, incredible drama. The stories were filled with laughter, food, togetherness, emotion, pranks, heartbreak, youth, resolution, soju, scolding, family, conflict, burning love, comedy, growth and more.Every episode was like a valuable lesson. I watched this with my mother who grew up in a community very, very similar to the one on-screen and it was wonderfully nostalgic and relatable for her.
Because the plot revolved around multiple families, there was never a *truly* dull moment and many of those milked scenes I remember toughing through in Reply 1994, I didn't have to deal with here. Things were always happening and the characters were always thinking, speaking, reflecting, riding the waves.
The drama is not perfect and that's okay. There are certainly faults here and there - things you notice that don't make sense, like the different older actors or how certain people's stories felt incomplete by the time the show's last episode ends... but this is as close to a golden 10 as I think anything will get.
Reply 1997 was a great start. Reply 1994 did well for what it's worth. But Reply 1988 easily takes the cake for me.

It’s not a drama, it’s more of a life lesson.
Honestly speaking, I was not as charmed by it as many people, but I still see the value this show has and its perfect execution. It was not an exciting roller coaster that made you want more. It reminded me more of a cup of hot tea that you crave after an exhausting day.There is no real plot, and the whole show focused on the characters and their daily lives. One could assume it’s boring, but the realistic problems they are facing, the true emotions shown through the acting, and the inspiring dialogues serves all that one could ask for.
Turning on the episodes just felt like hanging out with friends - I laughed with them, cried with them, was frustrated and happy when they were. The show had this magical quality that made you feel part of it, included in whatever was happening on screen.
Realistically speaking, romance was the weakest part of the show. With Hye Ri and Joon Yeol dating in real life, their on screen chemistry has been just too strong. Personally, I was team Taek, with how the characters and the story was written, they just made more sense. That said, I could clearly see why so many people suffered from Second Lead Syndrome.
On the other hand, Reply 1988 gave me one of the realest representations of teenage crushes. The intense emotions, lack of maturity that goes into it. How one day you might like one person, to fall for someone else the next day. It all reminded me of my first crushes and how ridiculously over the top it all was back in the days.
My favorite stories did not even include the main teens. I was in love with all the ajummas and their husbands. Even the possibility of any of them getting hurt made me cry.
One complaint I would have - the episodes were too long. I’d rather have 24 episodes and none of them being longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes, than having some of the last episodes almost 2 hours long. Especially since it was a show I enjoyed watching before sleep, and sometimes I truly struggled to finish the episode without falling asleep.
Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It’s hard for me to describe why. It’s just dear to my heart without me being able to verbalize why.

La principale raison étant qu’entretemps j’ai pu voir d’autres drama avec Go Kyung-Pyo, Hyeri, et les acteurs qui jouent leurs parents. Mieux familiarisée à ces bons acteurs (et après avoir lu tant de bonnes critiques sur Reply 1988) j’ai estimé que le risque d’abandon était moins risqué. Et j’ai eu raison !
J’ai enchaîné les épisodes. Les personnages sont extrêmement attachants : dans leurs failles, dans leurs forces, dans leur approche des aléas de la vie. Cette tranche de vie est particulièrement réaliste et voir l’évolution de chacun au fil du temps est beau à voir.
Grâce à Reply 1988 j’ai découvert une pépite : le drama, en soi, mais surtout l’acteur Ryu Joon Yeol. Il a « volé » le show. Son personnage est adorable. Ni plus ni moins.
Alors, oui, c’est lent. Oui, c’est parfois risible. Mais c’est la vie ! La vie qui suit son cours… Et qui n’a jamais vécu de moment embarrassant ? Qui n’a jamais souffert ? Qui n’a jamais eu de doute ? Qui n’a jamais raté « le Bon moment » ? C’est ce qui fait la force de ce drama.
Je vous encourage à le regarder, c’est une perle. Un ovni dans le monde aseptisé des dramas qui sont toujours si similaires, si prévisibles.
Quant à moi, Deok Seon, Jeong Hwan, Taek, Seon Woo, Dong Ryong, Bo Ra et leurs familles vont me manquer.
Je ne suis pas nostalgique de ma jeunesse, je souris tendrement à revivre la leur avec eux.

A melhor série que já vi
Sabe aquela série que você assiste ao episódio inteiro com um sorrisinho no rosto? ?
Ontem terminei mais um dorama que foi pra lista dos meus favoritos: Reply 1988. Comecei a assistir por 3 motivos: 1. Me indicaram. 2. Um dos dramas de maior audiência na Coreia do Sul. 3. Park Bo Gum. E confesso que logo no primeiro episódio fiquei sem entender o motivo de tanto amor e sucesso. Senti falta de uma grande trama ou fortes emoções. Mas depois do 2º episódio entendi que essa é a beleza da série: apreciar o dia a dia que nos leva a construir nossas relações e laços com quem amamos.
Além de contar um pouco mais sobre como era a vida de uma vizinhança em um bairro humilde de Seul no final dos anos 80, essa série é sobre família. A de sangue e a que formamos com nossos amigos. E todo drama que fala sobre esse tema se torna automaticamente um dos meus preferidos.
É impossível não se apaixonar pela protagonista Deok Sun (interpretada pela cantora Hyeri de Girl’s Day, que por sinal arrasou no papel). Uma das personagens mais doces que já vi. O grande mistério da trama é quem será seu futuro marido, que aparece sempre em cenas atuais comentando do passado. Comecei shippando errado, mas depois ficou claro pra mim quem seria o escolhido. Mas todos os personagens da trama podem ser considerados protagonistas, porque a história se aprofunda em cada um de uma maneira muito sensível.
Reply 1988 foi uma grata surpresa pra mim e tá no meu top 3 melhores k-dramas. Se você procura por um drama que mexe sutilmente com os seus sentimentos e te deixa com o coração quentinho a cada episódio, você também vai amar. Ele está disponível em 20 episódios na Netflix (cada episódio com 1h30 ao menos). Já tô com saudades e tenho certeza que vou sempre rever algumas cenas que amei, com diálogos pra carregar pra vida.

Un gran elenco y un precioso OST te llevan en un viaje nostálgico al barrio de Ssangmundong en 1988.
La historia tiene un poco de todo: tristeza, comedia y romance. Aquí cada uno de los personajes es importante, hasta el más pequeño tiene su manera de sobresalir, y llegamos a verlos en distintas facetas, por lo que es imposible no tomarles cariño.
Lo mismo pasa con las parejas, cada una tiene momentos que te hacen saltar el corazón, y tienen peso en el desarrollo individual de los personajes.
Las dinámicas en las amistades y con la familia son la base de este drama, ese es parte del por qué es tan fácil sentirte identificado.
Hay tantas reflexiones a lo largo de la historia y es precioso que muchas de ellas se centren en los padres. Estas personas que hacen sacrificios por sus hijos, que se tragan sus sentimientos para parecer fuertes, pero no dejan de ser humanas, con sueños e ilusiones abandonadas.
El grupo de amigos central es grandioso. Pueden hacer mil bobadas y molestarse mutuamente, sin embargo, el amor que se tienen es indudable (y enorme).
No puedo hacer los comentarios suficientes para explicar lo hermoso que me parece el drama. Basta con decir que logró enamorarme de inicio a fin, sin aburrirme ni un momento en sus 20 episodios con duración de más de una hora y media.
Reply 1988 es un recordatorio de que, no importa que vivamos en países y contextos diferentes, hay cosas con las que siempre nos podremos sentir conectados.

Com essa crônica de cinco amigos e suas famílias, senti crescer, viver com eles como se fizesse parte daquilo, mais ainda com as passagens de ano e roupas que se repetia, dava mais a sensação de cotidiano. Amei como Deok Sun contou o enredo, as referências de Goblin e Secret Garden, o restaurante chamado Brazil teok teok ou algo assim, ri a cada momento que ouvia o som do bode, o mesmo já era um personagem importante e a cena final é com certeza uma das minhas cenas favoritas.
Uma das coisas que me deixou impressionada foi a duração de 1:40, com certeza o mais longo que já vi e achei interessante como a fala sobre caixa de bombons de Forrest Gump foi usada. Não vejo nada que possa ser mudado, este drama foi uma maravilhosa surpresa que me rendeu bons momentos.
