"Ghibli Studio, Kingdom of Dreams and Madness"
This doc is indispensable for anyone who wants to know or learn how difficult it is to make an anime, under the guidance of one of the great masters of animation Hayao Miyazaki founder of one of Japan's oldest and most acclaimed studio, Ghibli Studio.
Founded in 1985, the studio has produced 20 animated films, the first Tenkû in Shiro Rapyuta, released in 1986, and the most recent Omoide in M?nii, released in Japan in 2014 and November 2015 in Brazil.
Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985 by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, Toshio Suzuki and Yasuyoshi Tokuma, shortly after the success of Kaze no Tani at Nausicaä the previous year. The studio released its first film, Tenkû in Shiro Rapyuta, the following year. The company logo is Totoro, a character in the film Tonari no Totoro, released in 1988. Except for six productions, all of the studio's films were directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Toshio Suzuki, in turn, is the producer of most of these films. In 2001, the Ghibli Museum, a museum dedicated to the studio's works, was inaugurated.
Among the great films that stood out significantly are:
- Hotaru no Haka (1988) Tomb of the Fireflies;
- Tonari no Totoro (1988) My Neighbor Totoro;
- Majo no Takky?bin (1989) The Kiki Delivery Service;
- Mononoke-hime (1997) Princess Mononoke;
- Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (2001) Chihiro's Voyage;
- Gedo Senki (2006) Tales of Terramar;
- Gake no Ue no Ponyo (2008) Ponyo - A Friendship that came from the Sea;
- Kaze Tachinu (2013) Lives to the Wind (this one that was shown his production in the doc);
- Kaguya-Hime at the Monogatari (2013) The Tale of Princess Kaguya;
- Omoide no Marnie (2014) The Memories of Marnie.
