Set in different periods, both movies express the hardships a low ranked samurai faces in daily life, and both of them show the meaning of honour in "samurai's way" with (in Twilight Samurai's case) less action but in a sorrowful way.

They are beautiful. You will find in both the excellent actors Eita and Mitsushima Hikari. In both, the dialogues are meaningful, and well-written. They will both make you cry. They will both make you smile. They are both well directed.
Hara-Kiri is in 2011 Cannes' Festival competition.

Both movies are directed by Takashi Miike, are remakes of classic epic jidaigeki Samurai movies from the 60s.

This is the recent re-make of the same movie. It's starring Eita, Ebizô Ichikawa and Hikari Mitsushima. It was presented in the last Cannes Festival and was originally filmed in 3D (for real, artistical reasons, not as a commercial toy). It was released internationally so even in my hometown I could go in a theater and watch it. It's beautiful, i recommend it.
