Humble medicine store apprentice Xu Xian falls in love with Bai Niang, a woman who claims to be the descendant of a rich family. However, Xu Xian soon discovers that Bai Niang is actually a white snake sorceress who has taken human form. The young couple is then torn apart by a group of monks who wish to save Xu Xian and defeat the white snake once and for all. ~~ Adapted from the ancient Chinese folktale "The Legend of the White Serpent".
