Quite an Odyssey worth watching

I won’t waste time sharing the plot since it is already stated in the info about this series.
love every aspect of this series. Wardrobe, whole production, the OST, actors, Director, story and visual effects.

Story pretty much is divided into two parts: lead male & lead female as slave & master and the second half, they got switched around. The story leading to it is not boring so don’t fret.

What I was disappointed about was the lead female crying scene-not convincing at all and I’m not being mean.

The twist of the story got a bit messed up that by episode 46 I started fast forwarding a lot. Story leading to the ending was frustratingly out there that it got overwhelming that made it feel it doesn’t fit the story anymore.

Ending could have been better I think.

Overall, it is truly worth watching if you are into light fantasy themed story.

PS: Janice Wu (Lead Female here) and Zhang Yu Jian (The second lead male) were married in 2020 and divorced in 2022.

What an epic tale

I first saw trailers of this series on another platform and I was intrigued by the storyline but I thought that this was an old series from around the early 2000’s. I was very surprised that it was only released in 2018 because it had that timeless quality about it almost like a fairy tale. Well all things considered it was a tale that had been told many times in the past but this time it had a bit of a twist. It was actually very good and once you start watching it it’s very hard to put down. The FL and ML were brilliant and the other members of the cast did their utmost to weave a spell that was as intriguing as it was entertaining. All in all it was great and I’d highly recommend it. Let’s hope they do a season 2.

Don't drop midway or you will regret it!

I'm here after finishing the series to say a few things.

I REAAALLY RECOMMEND IT.

The way the drama makes you feel confused about the characters (on which side you really support) is amazing. The actors are really talented to make their characters transition to someone really detestable to someone very likable and vice versa. It also makes you confuse on which ship you should pursue but in the end, it will eventually lead you to the correct pairings and be satisfied with it.

There is romance and comedy in case your wondering. The main character "YE YUANAN" - you are SO gonna love her, her personality is so adorable and she really has cute facial expressions. The romance between the main characters in the first few episodes might be lacking and not convincing, BUT dont ever drop the series because of it - just be patient and eventually in the second half YOU WILL BE FANGIRLING SO MUCH (well, i did). The ending ... you can discover yourself. DON'T WORRY, YOU WONT REGRET FINISHING IT :))))))

From the review of others ^^... I didn't have any issues about the plot being confusing AT ALL. It was well organized but there really were some invention imaginations that were forced like flying with a kite (but that's it!) (nothing to do with the plot).

The first half might be a bit boring for the main cast but the second half will cover up for it all. You just need to be patient and give careful attention to the plot or you will get confused like others (honestly, I still don't get why other say its confusing - the plot was really really easy to catch up with)

Will I Re-Watch it? I already am re watching it for God knows how many times already (but only the episodes with scenes that I like)
Do I Recommend it? YES! YES! YES!

For me, this is the best, best, best period drama series for 2018 !!! I love, love, love it sooooo much !!! Definitely worth re-watching. I fell in love with the character of actor Zheng Ye Cheng aka Mu Le aka Ah Ying the Prince. He looks so good in period drama costumes. This is my first time to watch him in a drama series and he is a very good actor and so very endearing. i will definitely watch him in other series, whether he is a main character or just in a supporting role.

If you are wondering why I rated Overall as a 9.5 instead of a perfect 10, then it's because I'm not satisfied with the ending. But no spoilers allowed so just watch this series. You will surely like it.

I pray that the producers come up with Season 2 . It's definitely worth waiting for. Please please Huace Production Outfit, make my wish come true !!

Story is okay but the ending is disappointing (not much of spoilers)

Firstly, I am so disappointed with the ending. Not what I expected. Whoever watch this drama will be as disappointed as I am. However, the storyline is not bad at all. It's pretty okay. Well, the main leads, Zheng Yecheng and Janice Wu were the reason I started to watch this drama in the first place. The ending was a cliffhanger. I think there is more to the ending but then I also feel like that's it for the ending.
Anyway, as for Mu Le and Yuan'An, although there were e a lot of scenes of them together, I feel like they don't really have that much of sweet and romantic moments together. Somehow they always got into trouble wherever they are. I suppose the sweetest and somewhat romantic moment was when Mu Le always there to protect her but Yuan'An always have Zhou Lanzhi in her mind which I think it is nice but I wasn't hoping for that. As for Zhou Lanzhi and Minghui, they got their good ending. Peace was brought to the two kingdoms, Suoluo and Tang.
I would give 9 stars to this drama but the storyline by the ending doesn't reach to my expectations so I give 8.5 stars instead which is quite high enough. If there ever be a second series for this drama, I look forward to it and I hope this time the ending will be better.

This is so worth watching. I really enjoyed the cast and the chemistry they had together. It was pretty good.

I was very disappointed in the ending after investing so much love into these characters. That may just be the American in me though.

I would loved to have had a happy ending for the main couple.

I think the costumes were brilliant. The Prince Ah Y... outfit was a bit cheesy. I would have liked to see some better detail to that one and style. He was such a beautiful character heart and looks.

Wonderful drama

This drama is one of the best compared to new drama wuxia dramas. Janice wu , she is the main character. She is a brave and beautiful woman. ML is a chocolate boy lookwise but yeah his character is really good even though FL outshined ML in this drama.
Their journey of love is really good. The costumes are really top-notch and you will fall in love with FL. It's filled with magic and powers but worth it and it's a beautiful drama but yeah there are emotional, funny, action and romantic scenes too.
I watched it years before so I don't remember exact scenes to explain but it is worth it.

I can assure you won't be disappointed.

Just atleast watch it for the leads, you will surely fall in love with one of them and storyline is great too.
Those who watched new dramas , you might find some scenes same plot but remember this is an old drama so it is the OG not new dramas. Even though it is old it's quality visually is really good. Just watch it.

Man I wish I posted my review for this right after I watched it.

I highly recommend this drama. It make you keep wanting more and more as you watch. The plots have some issues but I’ll explain more. The acting was amazing.

STORY:

YuanAn is a strong tomboy female who like to be independent. She is smart, young beautiful young lady.
In the first half of the story YuanAn have a crush on LanZhi. I was on that the team for YuanAn/LanZhi right away. Then MuLe came in the picture, but in the beginning they really made as if he was the second lead male actor, who will never be able to be with the lead female. YuanAn/LanZhi were like partners in crime and MuLe was their sidekick. YuanAn/LanZhi solve crime together and had many cute moments. MuLe on the other hand was a brokenhearted servant, as YuanAn only really saw MuLe as a servant and a friend.

When LanZhi got married to the annoying MingHui, YuanAn married MuLe as like a revenge in a way. The writer make it seem like it was a cute romantic thing, but it was only cute for MuLe, and YuanAn did it to make LanZhi jealous. Which is really mess up, but in these kind of dramas/shows the social view will always be mess up and messy.

Later on MuLe remember who he was and stole the beads. When he went back to his kingdom, he forgot everything in the other kingdom. YuanAn was ordered to go get the beads back. YuanAn and MuLe slowly fell for each other as YuanAn became MuLe’s servant. ( oh how the table have turned ) Team YuanAn/MuLe

Many people died in the end but that’s how most dramas in this genre end with, so I was use to the bittersweet ending.
_____
The show have some cheap love scenes but all shows have that and it’s cute.
YuanAn’s character was best in the beginning, but in the middle of the show, she was like an immature kid who threw fits when they didn’t get what they wanted. Later on her character recover and came back as a strong character but some way wiser.
LanZhi/MingHui’s relationship didn’t really make sense as they worked out their problems when the show wasn’t focus on having them in the eps.

ACTING/CASTING:

The acting in this show was amazing.
like Zheng YeCheng as MuLe was the best, as he play an amazing naive servant to a smart prince.

MUSIC:

I have the whole playlist in my phone and listen to it a lot

REWATCH VALUE:

I will watch it again

Why why when their chemistry started why they had sad ending . I started liking the drama after episode 30 ,before that it was little boring . Just to found beads they connect so many small small stories they extended story too much and made it bored ,no exciting elements . Secondly I really don't understand the main female lead character ,in drama it had been shown that she so much attached to Mu le ,she always thought about him ,worried about him ,cried for him even when Zhao Lan Zhi hold her hand as soon as she seen Mu le watching them she released her hand and even replied Zhao Lan Zhi's question that she cared him or Mu le then how came Zhao Lan Zhi's her first love ,in drama never shown such scene between them that they were in love. I want season 2 badly.

Keeps you interested but derails

The story seems original and breaks some expected molds. The FL remains wishywashy back and forth about who she actually loves for far too long so I wasn’t sure who to even root for during a large chunk of the drama. It’s definitely interesting and keeps you wanting more. However, the last 15 or so episodes seem like they belong to a different drama. I had a hard time keeping timelines straight and FL again was so stubborn and refused to admit her feelings for far too long. Minimal relationship development. Second leads romance progressed more than mains’. Great martial arts and stunts. Good use of themes in soundtrack. Enjoyed monk’s character.

You will have to watch it till the end as most of the real saucy drama is in the end.

Coming from someone who has ADHD and can barely finish a 16 episode drama, i watched it till the end. It was very simple at first like a normal rom-com and/ot action but in the later half that is after episode 37 did it get good (unlike popular opinion).
I loved all the characters and casting but what i hated the most was ming hui, she is a character that did not pay for her wrong doings, even if she did it under imperial orders, she should have paid for it.
I loved Janice Wu as i do in every other drama of hers and i love the chemistry, i understand that what the writers wanted to tell the watchers was that yuan'an loved Mu Le as whatever he was but many people did not take it as that because she realised her love for him after he essentially became a prince.
It's plot was pretty confusing and messy but i still watched it whole, i just wanted to say one thing, watch it totally and you will either love it or hate it, no in the middle.
